“Very very good”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 16, 2012

All the people moaning on here that this is not the Joe's of old, that you don't get piles of food for a few bucks... why do you think they had to sell in the first place? It's not good business sense. What Joe's does now is great burgers at a reasonable price, If you want cheap you can walk across to McDonalds and grab a happy meal. If you want great drinks and great food you can come here and stop moaning that you don't feel fat and greasy when leaving. Admittedly the décor is a little uninspired and needs something to make it a little cosier.

“Cheeseburger in Paradise....well, kind of.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2012

Dined here Sunday 24th September before going over the road to the Palais Theatre to see Jimmy Buffett. No reservation at 6pm on a Sunday resulted in us sittign at the bar for about 20 minutes, but the quality of the Mojito's made the wait a pleasure. If you're into American style Bar and Grill type food, this is the place for you. There are about 6 varities of burger, and if you arrive before 630 you can have a Burger and a Beer for $15. There are also steaks, sliders and ribs. We started with the pulled pork sliders, then each had a huge cheeseburger with a side of onion rings. Plenty of beers, and then we finished with a Maragarita. A really pleasingly hefty meal. Service was prompt, efficient and friendly. No complaints at all and an excellent burger.

“A fallen giant.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 6, 2012

Greasy Joe's was once a St Kilda institution, with massive burgers of beautiful ingredient and construction that were well priced and incredibly filling. Greasies (as it was known to the regulars) was a late night burger joint with a very indy vibe, cool music, great food, grungy interior and super funky staff.

And, amazingly, it stayed that way for years and years.

That was back in the day before the owners were pressured out of their original corner location by their landlord (who wanted to knock down the building to convert it to yet more trendy, tiny little apartments) and moved up the road.

The story is a little more complex than that, but the result is the same: Greasy Joe's had to move and they never really re-captured their mojo. Part of Greasies success was in their location - a large location with a central horseshoe shaped bar that was fronted by an enclosed area for outside, street-side service.

They tried to continue this winning formula at their new location, but things were a little too shiny, a little too new and the grunge had gone.

The food is a little more 'pre-packaged' and less 'rough and ready' now than it once was, and this hasn't really helped them out all that much.

Today the corner site that was such a St Kilda institution is apartments and hipster shops. And that's a real shame because Greasies once was a big part of the character of the street and the area.

For a dining experience that's close to the original Greasies in feel and delivery (and geographical location), head just up Carlisle street to The Galleon restaurant which offers all the grunge, all the character and all the quality of food that the new Greasy Joe's does not.

“A good choice”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 9, 2012

It's not "Greasy Joe's" anymore, just "Joe's" (the tongue-in-cheek sign says, "This way, you lucky people"). The menu is not big, but you will almost certainly find something here to satisfy your hunger. The burgers are highly recommended (chips could have been better, though, I'll admit). Nice selection of beer and wine, and very friendly service.

“Fun place, great food, highly recommended”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 23, 2012

This revived memories of 'Happy Days' - it had all the fun - less Fonzie!!! The staff are friendly and helpful and the servings are huge. We have been back and will return again.
