“Good location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 25, 2013

Needed a place to stay after car issues was able to check in after 11 less than 20 minutes after booking on expedia. Large, comfortable rooms, $18 a night for parking is a bit much but there is free on street parking if you're lucky. In room entertainment system a little clunky to use but overall good service.

We travelled to Geelong to watch the might Cats play and whilst we were there we stayed 2 nights at the Mercure Geelong. It was fantastic, would recommend it to anyone. We originally booked one room with two queen beds via wotif.com. We got an absolute bargin! During the quick check in process, one of the kids asked the man at reception could they have separate beds (not prompted by the parents), they said fine and changed our room to accomodate the kids request, when ending up with 1 king and 2 single beds which was appreciated by all. Room was great, good views, reasonable size, warm and clean. Beds were comfortable.

When visiting Geelong don't stay anywhere else.

Room Tip: We were a family of 4 and the room we had 1 king and 2 singles which was great!

Dear Kiddycat5.

Thanks for your recent visit to the Mercure and your review

It was certainly pleasing to read that our family room worked well for you and the kids.

We love the atmosphere in the hotel when the Mighty Cats play at home and hope to see you again for a game in the not too distant future.

Best regards.

Very old dated hotel. Our room was extremely gloomy and musty smelling. We would not return to this hotel, it needs a lot of work and money spent at it to bring it up to standard. We would not recommend.

We enjoyed our stay here, if only the weather was as good. Great location a few minutes walk from the centre of Geelong with its restaurants, shops, cinema etc perfect for a short or long stay. Open air car parking at $18 is in line with most big city hotels but if you are happy to take a chance there is plenty of parking on the streets around the hotel. Reception staff were friendly and efficient and our room on the 6th floor was spacious, clean and well appointed with a big tv, a very comfortable bed and good products in a good size clean bathroom. Only one towel but that was sorted quickly by reception. As it was pouring with rain we had dinner in Zenith, the staff there were excellent, the caramelised onion and gruyere tart entree and steak main were delicious but very filling so no room for dessert. After a good nights sleep breakfast was extensive with a vast array of hot and cold choices and the scrambled egg and bircher muesli were among the best we have had at hotel buffets. Sadly cant say the same for the coffee coming out of the coffee machine which was weak and bitter. All in all a good quality four star hotel that we will happily return to.

Room Tip: Ask for an upper floor bayside room, the view is lovely especially at night with all the lights

Thanks again and I hope to welcome you back soon.
