Location is fine, I had a good view, the bed was comfortable, but, somehow, the whole experience was depressing. The corridors were dim and dismal, the towels thin and grey and the room, although a decent size, felt a little unloved. However, water pressure was good, the room was quiet and everything worked. Reception staff were fiendly and professional. I was glad I only had to stay one night.

This is one of the more tired Mercures I have stayed in. Rooms are spacious enough but sofa old and tired, towels pretty threadbare, and carpet a bit grubby. The so called bay view room was a bit of a joke and the idea of charging $18 for parking in an open car park at the back of the hotel raises gouging to a new height. We selected it on the basis that the higher price meant better value. how wrong we were. There must be better options than this in Geelong

Selected this on the basis of trip advisor ratings so booked a bay view room higher up as suggested and we actually have a great view of the next door construction site ( thanks goodness it's Saturday so assume we will not be woken at 6am tomorrow). You could probaby get a nice bay view if you leant out over the balcony and had a mirror on a stick to see around the other side of the hotel! We saw a basic chiefley hotel right on the bay which looked similar in quality and would have excellent views - wish we'd booked there! However some big car event in town so availability was limited for this weekend at other hotels - now I know why! This is a basic 2 star hotel with a tired albeit spacious room with a queen bed, $50 extra card charge which is archaic and $18 for parking but as a tip there is free parking right outside. I'd never come back either.

Room Tip: No and the tip I followed to book a room on a higher floor with a view was a waste of time
