Owner description: Here the story of wool is brought to life - told by those who lived it and the sounds of heritage machines weaving carpets and knitting socks. Here the smell of lanolin fills the air, fresh fleece beckons your touch and the authentic surrounds of the shearing shed immerse you in the Australian wool story. The National Wool Museum experience is more than just wool. Here history, science, fashion, handcraft and art come together. Here temporary exhibitions and programs combine learning, exploration and entertainment. Here you can find the finest woollens, learn a traditional craft, explore our region's heritage and maybe even come fate-to-face with creatures from our past. Today the National Wool Museum is one of Australia's cultural treasures, a major asset to the City of Greater Geelong and a cultural heritage destination for visitors and community.

Well worth a visit, whether you drop in by yourself or take along a child or three. Very much an informative learning experience, with plenty to see and look at.

“Wonderful wool heydays”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 18, 2012

This would have to now be one of my favourite museums in Australia. I have been to a lot!! This one is unique and showcases our history of wool and sheep production. Displays are great, the working axminster carpet loom and the demos are something you will probably see no where else! Staff are wonderful and historical treasures themselves!! I would certainly come back one day and do it all again. Don't miss it if you like truly Australian museums.
