“Gorgeous B&B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 15, 2008

Recently stayed here and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The rooms are so beautiful - the beds are very comfortable - the rooms are warm and quiet. Julie is so helpful and friendly and Graham cooks the most awesome breakfast. We loved sitting in the breakfast room overlooking the garden. It is only a short walk down to town where you can grab a great meal at the Irish pub O'Keefe's or at The Metz - the service at both places was fantastic. OK - so the walk back was a bit steep but it was great to walk off the meal.
We loved Teddy the dog who is such a sweetie - all in all a really relaxing and comforable stay and we would definitely recommend it.

From the moment we arrived at Kurrajong House, we were made to feel very welcome and relaxed. The house and garden was kept immaculately and the room was just beautiful. The hosts, Julie & Graeme were so friendly and welcoming (Graeme cooks THE best breakfast as well!). We didn't want for anything. We were given ideas of what to see and where to go, and we enjoyed our stay so much. Their prices were very reasonable as well. We would recommend them to anyone and would certainly return there if we go back to Tassie. Peter & Kay Brooks, Brisbane, Qld

Positives:

Rooms are reasonably spacious and have lovely neutral decoration.
Two suit case rests supplied which was great – we usually end up with one case sitting on the floor.
Large ensuites (shower only).
Rooms are very clean.
Delicious generous breakfast.
Lovely light breakfast room (conservatory).
Easy to book on the phone.
Ample parking.
Very quiet.

Negatives:

A little hard to find (on a feeder road) initially.
No use of any of the house other than your room (you really may as well be in a motel).
No bath.
No added extras – we’re used to biscuits with the tea and coffee supplies and nice touches like guest toiletries, port and chocolates as added extras.
Not encouraged to eat in your room (Julie says it “leaves crumbs”).
Breakfast served between 8 and 8.45am so forget any idea of a sleep in.

Overall comment:

Value for money if you are looking for privacy and mainly a place to sleep. I’m sure had we been intending to get an early start and spend our time sight seeing I would have thought this was fabulous. However if, like us, you have come to Tassie to relax and unwind I’d suggest alternative accommodation. We expected to be able to relax in the lounge and read a book, enjoy a glass of wine and a nibble in our room and have a well deserved sleep in – none of which this property could accommodate.

6 years ago but things have changed. 1 year yesterday since we bought Kurrajong House. Unfortunately as with other businesses we have inherited good and bad reviews, luckily mostly good. It saddens me to read this review. Glad you liked the rooms although they have changed a little in 6 years, Breakfast is still delicious, still on feed off High Street which is easy to find, We still only have showers as our clientele are mostly mature and prefer a safe shower to a potentially unsafe slippy bath. The conservatory has now been extended allowing a charming sitting/reading room. Tea, coffee, biscuit's, kettle, fridge, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, hand wash & body moisturiser all supplied to our guests. Breakfast is still served in the beautiful sunny conservatory between 8am & 9am as our guests enjoy the company of other travellers and enjoy sitting to nearly 10am chatting. You don't need to leave the table by 9am, just order your cooked breakfast. Enjoy a glass of Tasmanian wine and cheese & nibbles in your room, in the lounge/dinning area or out in our sunny patio. No curry's or takeaway's eaten in the rooms as it stinks the room out for the next guests. So sorry this review is on full view as it does not reflect Kurrajong House 2014. Linda & Andre

This little B&B is a lovely romantic getaway in a great spot in Launceston. The heritage house is lovely and the rooms are large and well funished.

Breakfast was great and the fresh flowers in the dining room was a lovely touch.

  • Liked — Classy and romantic
  • Disliked — When we mentioned we had looked around at other places the owner tried to dig some dirt

It certainly was a comfortable and cozy B&B. We were greeted by charming Julie on arrival. She apologised that the room would not be ready until 2 pm. It did not bother us as we were ready to explore Launceston and had just arrived on a less than 2 hour flight from Sydney.
Julie gave us a detailed map and information about Launceston and waved us goodbye.
We were lucky enough to stay in No 7, the King Cameo room. Large room with a modern bathroom and the best hot shower! The only thing we really missed was an open fire or a gas style heater. But it was only minor. There was enough heaters to look after you.
Breakfast was served between 8-8.45. You were greeted yet again by impeccable Julie who quickly introduced you to other guests and took your hot breakfast order.
Breakfast was perfect with preserves, muesli, fruit and various kind of toast and excellent bacon and eggs and tomatoes..

We would highly recommend Kurrajong House and will for sure stay there again.
It is also gay friendly.

Ideal location in Launceston....
Just a short downhill walk to the City (always wise to take a Taxi back up the hill - only $6.00). Did not use the car for 3 days.

Excellent presentation of rooms, with high standard amenities and much quality antique furniture!

The FULL breakfast was just that ( only a snack needed for lunch! OR perhaps another Devonshire Tea...)

Lovely frendly people, who encouraged morning holiday discussions amongst Guests; which provided additional information for planning each day's activities.

HIGHLY RECOMENDED.

The first 2 Reviews have said it all !
From Julie & Graeme's warm welcome, to our lovely room, to the pleasant, sociable breakfasts in the Dining Room, we wanted for nothing.
The home was beautiful, the location was great and the helpful hints were much appreciated.
We look forward to going back again at "who knows when ! "
