“A home away from home”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 31, 2013

My wife and I stayed at the Village Family Motor Inn over the Australia day long weekend. This was our first trip to beautiful Launceston and we were extremely pleased with our decision to stay at this location. We had been recommended this place from another friend and we were not disappointed. Upon arrival we found the hospitality to be warm and respectful. The family owners made us feel at home straight away, this was a great indication of their overall manners and hospitality which enabled us to settle in quickly. The rooms were spacious and clean with all the essentials required making it great value for money. We also had the most beautiful views from our window which was a delight to wake up to in the morning. The property itself was really lovely and for someone who enjoys a great setting; the backdrop views were fantastic and picturesque. We stayed two nights and our rooms were cleaned when required and maintained to the standards expected which was nice and comforting. We had dinner on one of the nights and we found the food to be really tasty and a great value overall. The bar located near reception is an also good size to chill out and enjoy a few drinks close to home. The location is central to the town centre and only a short drive away. Overall a great value for money with a nice touch of warmth and family hospitality.

As others had said, clean but dated. Two adults with two teenager girls we were cramped to watch tv or for meals . We found the beds hard and old mattress. We even put the doonas under the sheets for a slightly better night but greatful for only staying two nights. The pool is good and the spa was very much needed after trekking around cataract gorge and local parks.

We were pleased with our stay, rooms were adequate, clean and ideal for our family needs. An ideal location for access to the Silverdome Sports Centre. A short drive into town and easy access to midland highway. Continental breakfast was satisfactory and two couples from our party dined in the restaurant and were pleased with their meal and evening.

The overwhelming plus was 'value for money'.

Room Tip: We had a nice view of the Tamar River from Room 3.

Our room was quite dated but fairly clean upon arrival. On day two our towels (hung up to indicate that we would use them again) had been removed and nothing had been put in their place. No soap, no towels, etc. The breakfast is as simple as can be. Cold cereal and inexpensive bread with instant coffee. The free wifi was supposed to self-limit at 300 mb but I found that it continued to download at decent speed. The motel is a bit out of town and not within walking distance of anything. We stayed on New Years Eve and predictably our neighbors were very noisy, but I suspect they would have been in any establishment. But the walls were quite then and it sounded like we were attending their party but didn't get to share in any of the food or beverages served. Ah well.

I stayed one night for work and the location and the price was right. Rooms were larger than I expected for an older property, and it was clean, and nice to have free Wi-Fi as well. Too many laminated signs in the room though telling you what to do.

When we checked in, a man at the desk was ok. he was helpful.
Later that day different man was on the desk. He looked very odd. I went to desk and tried to ask for internet connection, he did not say any words at all.

Next day we went to restaurant to have breakfast. This odd man did not say any words at all but he just pointed a table. So we took a table which we thought he pointed at and had meal. then He came to our table and shouted at us. He was very angry, because the table we took was different from the one he pointed at, where was right behind our table.

We could not believe the hotel hiring such rude man who has not have simple communication skill.

Price + room are ok. I did not expect superb service at this 3 stars hotel. but this guy was horrible.

This place is not up to standard as per the 4 other places we have stayed for the same tariff . Comfort wise the bed left a lot to be desired.
Tourists like like to get out and about and offering breakfast at 8am is a little on the late side. All other places we stayed at opened for breakfast at 7am. (8am is also to late for early flights out). On the positive side it is close to the CBD and all points north and south.
