We really liked the Lido. Stayed there with my fiance, my sister and her partner. We had a 3 bedroom apartment and it was very big. Had a fully equipped kitchen, a lounge room with comfy couches, a dining table, a balcony and 3 bedrooms. 1 bedroom had an ensuite, and the other bathroom was accessible from 2 points- the other bedroom and the corridor. Nice touches in the apartments, such as kool mints on reception for you to take, and a variety of T2 teas in the room. Heat pump in the apartment also, when we arrived it was nice and warm (freezing outside). Beds come fitted with electric blankets. Can't comment on location as we stayed there to then drive to agfest the next day, so didn't notice if it's close to the main city area or not, however noticed there is a Kmart/Coles just a minute walk away.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 25, 2013

A one night stay for two couples in April was okay but not as good as I had hoped. Yes, the apartments are conveniently located (although it is a bit of a walk from the CBD in cold or wet weather). The side road entrance to the car parking is good along with the convenient rear entrance door. Having a car port for the car was a treat. Nearby (walkable) is a big 24 hour Coles supermarket (Launceston Plaza) and in the hill suburb above the apartment a fantastic food store/kitchen (Alps & Amici, 52 Abbott Street) if you are eating in they can supply great gourmet food.
We had a three bedroom, lower -floor apartment that was sunny (northerly aspect) with a pleasant view. The first impressions were really of the age of the apartment (as to be expected) but it was all rather dull and drab. There were a few art deco decorative touches; one painting (large room) and it looked rather cold and uninviting. The carpet in the living room really needs to be replaced. We placed fresh flowers on the coffee and dining tables to brighten up the room and placed a decorative plate in the bare fire place. By the time our friends joined up in the evening, with the lamps on, the living area looked much inviting than in the harsh light of day. However we had to enter our apartment through the attractive lobby that was unlit (lights came on later).
The kitchen was excellent, full size fridge, older style but good oven and hot plates and generous supply of kitchen tools. The china was very interesting – not at all what you would hope for in a rental apartment. The beds were comfortable and the towels thick and soft. Good heating available and an air conditioner in the living room.
We may stay again sometime but would check out apartments closer to the CBD and their dollar value. That said I doubt you could get a modern apartment with such spacious living space as the Lido.

Room Tip: Multi bedroom apartments appear to be at the rear and single bedroom apartments at the front (main r...

We stayed one night at the Lido Apartments. Well appointed with very good kitchen including stove and microwave. Spacious and close to shops. It is close, however, to a main road, so there was some road noise in the middle of the night. Well recommended.

Lido Apartments were fantastic. Set in a lovely art-deco building, we found spacious and cool apartments. The decor was beautifully balanced between 1920 / 1930's style furniture with plentiful modern appliances. This allowed us to enjoy the atmosphere of art-deco building while still being practical and comfortable. It is not often that self-catered accommodation offers such nice fittings and crockery.

As a place for a family to stay, it was perfect - lots of room for us all. Located around the corner from a Coles and in a really central location in Launceston but still in a quiet location. You could even borrow DVDs of movies and TV shows to watch. Free WiFi (although the signal was weak) was an added bonus.

Surprisingly, the rates were comparable to other self-catered accommodation although the Lido stood out by a mile! I would definitely come back here again.

I chose to stay at The Lido whenever I come to launceston for the following reasons:

Great location - short walk to the park, the city, Inveresk, lovely river walks near by ...
Great rate - what would you prefer? An impersonal room in a big hotel or your own living space in an Art Deco apartment? Lots of room and a fully equipped kitchen
Great service - staff always willing to help an answer questions
Car parking - off street parking that you don't have to pay for!

O, and close to grocery shopping, video store and Launceston aquatic centre

If there is a downside it's the fact that this apartment is on a busy main road (only busy with the morning an evening home/ school traffic), but this is minor. And the beds are on the harder side of firm.

Highly recommended for couples and families.

Room Tip: He larger three bed apartments are at the back and quieter

I'm writing this from The Lido after having checked in earlier today. I chose The Lido after reading the many positive reviews on TripAdvisor and I wasn't disappointed. I'm in a 3-bedroom apartment and it is very spacious. The kitchen is almost full sized and fully equipped (microwave, oven, hob, dishwasher, fridge). There's a fair sized lounge and separate dining area which seats 6. There are 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. All in all very comfortable for a small family or group of up to 5 persons.

Yes, as some have noted the building and apartment looks a little dated (a little only mind you). But it is clean and all the furnishings and equipment are in good condition. The Lido is now under new ownership, with the new owner (Kellie) having taken over just 2 weeks ago. One immediate new change is free wi-fi!

There's a Coles and K-mart within walking distance, which is very convenient for stocking up on groceries.

The front facing units might get a bit of road noise from Elphin Road, so we requested for and got the rear facing units which are quieter.
