“Beauty so close to the city”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 30, 2011

its a beautiful reserve right within walking distance to Launceston city. Beautiful rock faces, constant running water and the chair lift are what it has to offer with lovley restaraunts, suspension bridge and walking tracks. and with the pecocks and occasion seal or shark wild life is everywhere. a must see...

“Stranded but worth a visit!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 19, 2011

It was raining the day we went,we checked that the weather would not interfere with catching the chairlift and was assured it would be fine, we bought two return tickets on the chairlift at $30 for two,as I have a mobility problem due to bone cancer and I did not want to risk falling by doing the walk. We were over there about 1 1/2 hours after enjoying a lovely lunch and look about. Two our horror on returning to catch the chairlift back at 2pm they had shut the chairlift without even bothering to check with the Restaurant if there was any people going back on the return trip! As I had no choice I slowly and carefully made my way back, the place was shut so we could not even get the refund for the return trip.

“Small, walkable and full of wonders”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 8, 2011

Half day on a nice sunny day will be fine to enjoy the chairlift and the walking trip from entrance of King's bridge. I finished a half day tour to the Tasmania Zoo in the morning and went there for a delicious lunch at the Gorge Restaurant before touring around. Lots of peacocks to picture with and the Gorge, suspension bridges are all picturesque. It is small but ...really relaxing and enjoyable. Any walking shoes will do...easy to manage. You can even include a short tamar river tour before or after your visit....that will only take you less than a day to enjoy the whole thing.

“Smooth Ride on the Chairlift”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 27, 2010

Our twelve-year-old son had a few reservations about the Basin Chairlift ride. In fact, it took him until his second visit and a lot of encouraging from his younger brother to have a turn. But he loved it, and realised he felt very safe once he was seated and underway. We spent quite a while studying the peacocks at the Cliff Grounds and were amazed by how tame they were. And then we finished with cakes in the Basin Cafe. I was a little disappointed with the cakes - they had sold out of the chocolate and raspberry cheesecake!!
