“4.5 stars it isnt”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 9, 2014

Ok building has a history and buildings are gorgeous but that is where it stops. The night manager has no people skills at all. It seemed I was a burden to her. My requests on booking werent met. I was given a room right on road after I asked for a top floor quiet room. I didnt know when I booked that it was a major weekend for Launceston but my address must have given them an idea that I was out of town. The rooms smell - of what I dont know. The air conditioning was on but once I was in room it didnt seem to work The fan came on and off but not on the way that air conditioners cycle. The photos on website are so misleading. Rooms are VERY noisy from corridors as well as rooms next door. My neighbours woke at 4am for a shower that squealed and woke me up. They then continued to get ready to go out and the banging echoed thru the walls. Then of course the doors dont lock unless the are slammed and at 4.45am it is very annoying. Then I went to order breakfast and found they charge $5 to deliver your brekky to the room - I have never come across that before as breakfast in your room is a given in 100% of other hotels I have stayed in. I would attempt anywhere else than this place even if it is just to avoid the not so nice Manager at front desk.

Room Tip: Give the whole establishment a miss. I am sure there is much better for the price in Launceston

Booked this hotel through the entertainment book... busy season... seemed to be the best available at the time. Good location... rooms are ok, nothing to write home about. Too much noise from the corridors.
Probably will not stay there again. One suggestion to the management of this hotel - many things in my comments are probably beyond your control - but there is one thing you could do which will make up for all that - provide free wifi.... It is high time the hotels realize that like water and electricity wifi should be part of the basic services provided....

We had the Loft penthouse, the spa was lovely and the shower was huge. Loved the body wash smelt divine. The gorgeous gardens and old world feel to the place was what made it special to. The restaurant was great loved the old photos and Convict bricks. Being so close to Launceston was very handy didn't need a car at all. If you are looking for a hotel close to everything that is really friendly then please come here we will be bringing the kids next time for sure.

Room Tip: The loft room was very sunny.

Very comfortable room, old charm of building was delightful. Enjoyed great value with the bed and breakfast package, breakfast included fresh local gourmet foods. Staff were friendly, had undercover car park, short flight of stairs to room on second floor. Great location within Launceston for a stroll around. Hope to visit again!

This hotel is well located a block or so from the city centre. The room is good with all you would hope for including a safe. Bathroom had a nice shower. There is plenty of free car parking. The room service breakfast was just terrible though. I will not order food there again. It was served cold and frankly was not tasty and look unappealing. The room had air conditioning which is not always provided in Tasmania. Reception staff where very efficient and friendly. The City Park offers a better option than here I reckon.

The room (standard queen) was comfortable and spacious, although I don’t know why the toilet paper dispenser is more than an arm’s length from the bowl, but the room was noisy. The walls are thin. We could hear showers/water pipes not just from neighbouring rooms but further along, perhaps old plumbing, and we could hear people outside in the car park, despite being on the top (3rd) floor. It wasn’t helped having a few late night revellers and then a noisy group departing early slamming car doors. The room was reasonably priced but there is better accommodation in Launceston that provide quieter rooms for the same price. I don’t know if someone was smoking on our floor, they should not have been, or they were smoking close to an air-condition duct outside, but there was a distinct cigarette smell in the corridor and occasionally coming into in our room.

We spent three nights at this conveniently located hotel. On arrival we discovered a mistake in our room allocation and when we raised this with Reception we were given a complimentary continental breakfast each morning, This proved to be a welcome upgrade. A good selection of food was offered at breakfast and it was served in a stylish room with decor reflecting the hotel's heritage. We also had one dinner in the adjacent restaurant, which has a pleasant pub ambience, Unfortunately the meals were a bit over-cooked. Our hotel room was spacious, clean and comfortable. One night we were awoken by noisy neighbours at 2am. Two calls to "Night Security" eventually brought relief. Note that these calls were transferred to a mobile phone and charged accordingly on our hotel bill. Reception staff were happy to remove these charges when I raised an objection.

Room Tip: There is no lift, So if you don't want to have to carry your luggage up a few flights of stairs...
