“Excellent venue”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 8, 2013 via mobile

Everything about this place is great. Rooms, conference facilities and service. I did not eat here so cannot comment on food but accom was fantastic, modern and a delight. Tasteful renovated to hold character but ultra modern in rooms

5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2013

I stayed here a few weeks ago for one night. We arrived after 7pm and were greeted by a friendly receptionist who said that dinner was served for another hour (so we hurried up!). He also said that he was on duty for another two hours and for us to get in touch with him if we had any problems. That was a very nice welcome. The hotel has quite a bit of off-road/on-site parking, but probably not enough if the hotel was full. It's easy to find and fits on a corner block. We had a deluxe room on the first floor (126), looking out onto the streets. It was quiet, being a Sunday night, so I can't say how noisy it might be midweek. Our room was enormous, the normal size of a suite in most hotels, with a good bathroom too. The bed was typical of the Choice chain! It was beautifully decorated with cushions etc. but the mattress was medium hard and like most cheap mattresses, wobbled when one person moved (with two in the bed). The pillows were good quality and the sheets were clean, but I wish hotels would invest in better quality mattresses.
We ate the most delicious meal in the restaurant, served very pleasantly by a young waitress, and the food was beautifully presented and tasty. Couldn't fault it. Breakfast was also excellent, with a big variety of food to choose from, including a tea selection.
We didn't use the internet and I forgot to see how much it costs. We didn't use room service, which was available, and the TV/ipod docking station etc. were all working.
I would definitely recommend this hotel to tourists and business people - it was a lovely experience and Launceston has many attractions.

Room Tip: Depending on the day of the week you're there, perhaps don't choose a front facing room for...

Stayed two nights here in 2 bedroom suite. Friendly staff, spotlessly clean, well-equipped room, short walk to centre of town. Only had breakfast in restaurant which was fine, lots of other places to eat within walking distance. No free wifi. Would stay here again.

We spent two nights at the Clarion, at the start of our holiday in Tasmania and found it a very pleasant way to begin our trip to this beautiful part of Australia. The staff were helpful and friendly and gladly helped us with our luggage to the second floor.
The rooms are tastefully decorated and very comfortable, but as with another review I have read, I too would like to be able to open the windows, which I believe have been closed off to keep both noise and the chilly air out.
I would be happy to recommend this hotel to anyone wishing to enjoy a stay in a lovely old hotel in Launceston.

We stayed for 1 night and although the room was lovely it was very small. There was a terrace right outside our window that other guests could use which meant we had to keep our curtains closed if anyone was there. The reception staff were very helpful and showed us a good tourist walk that covered the town and the gorge. We ate in the town in the evening so can't comment on the food.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 15, 2013

We spent the last night of our Tassie trip here and found it to be a great experience. We were in a deluxe spa suite in The Stables at the rear of the property. The only gripe is having to lug suitcases up the stairs, but I guess lifts are not really an option in this type of historic building and it was only one floor. The room was spacious, clean with top quality furniture, fittings and decor. The bathroom was large and clean though the shower door allowed water to leak over the floor. There were many toiletries and extras such as razors, combs provided in the bathroom but no shower gel, just soap which I found surprising and a little disappointing. The large leather couch was very comfy and the large TV easily viewed from there or the king size very comfortable bed. Room temperature was cosy while it was cold outside. We ate both dinner and breakfast in Larceny restaurant onsite and found both meals to be excellent. Reception and restaurant staff were all friendly, professional and helpful.

Breakfast was priced similarly to other hotels of this standard ($16 for continental and $24 for full hot and continental breakfast). Continental included fruit, cereal, yoghurt, toasts/jams, pancakes, juice, tea/coffee - more than adequate and all fresh and tasty. Hot buffet included lean bacon, well cooked eggs, mushrooms, tomatoes and baked beans. My husband had this option and found it to be well cooked and tasty.

I had the atlantic salmon with seasonal veges and my husband had the butterfried prawns for dinner - both were beautifully cooked and presented and at similar prices to what we had paid anywhere else in Tassie. We tried a Tassie Pinot Gris suggested by our waiter and found it to be a great choice as well.

The restaurant is City Park and has offstreet parking available. It was within walking distance of the Tamar River cruise departure point and the central shopping area of Launceston.

Overall a high quality property offering good service and food in a convenient location.

Room Tip: Stables rooms are away from the road so probably quieter and as it's only 2 storeys high you won...

We have stayed a few times here and it always a great spot to be based in Launceston.
The room I had was part on the main building and its spotless, a bit small for my liking but comfortable. The flooring has a bit of a sloop but its adds to the charm of the room
Breakfast was really great and freshly cooked,
There is no elevator to the upper level but the reception offered to carry your bags up the stairs if you need help. This is a great Personnel touch in staying here.
Recommend to all how wants to stay in Launceston
