“Modern Hotel in a Good Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 13, 2014

We stayed at the Hotel Charles twice, in different rooms on our recent trip to Tasmania. My only complaint is when staying the first time, our room was at the very end of the building and had no WiFi coverage due to the very weak signal. To use WiFi we had to go outside into the hotel corridor. This was not a problem on our second stay when we had a more central location. Apart from that the hotel is in excellent condition with comfortable bedding and modern ammenities.
The cooked to order breakfast included in our room rate, was also excellent and generous.
Good central location, within easy walking distance of the city centre, supermarkets, and reataurants.

Stayed there as a family with 2 kids and had the adjoining apartment/rooms. Nice & tasteful furnishings with comfortable beds and kitchenettes. Good location for walk to local restaurants and breakfast places in a fairly upmarket area. Near the new Launceston hospital. The hotel is an old hospital that has been refurbished.
Service at reception was OK and could be better. Holiday season so perhaps they were busy. Would have rated 5 stars otherwise.
Good stay and would recommend as a place to stay in Launceston. Used the Entertainment Card and received a good rate.

Stayed 3 times in different rooms within 10 days as we traveled Tasmania. Minimalist rooms were all nicely renovated, immaculate and quiet. Some rooms have a small kitchenette. Comfy beds, but a bit soft for us. Good heat/ac, good shower with good water pressure. Hotel was fully booked, but we always found a parking space. Guest laundry available. Reception staff was outstanding: welcoming, kind, and helpful. Housekeeping and restaurant staff were also very friendly. (Restaurant menu was limited). For breakfast, try Aromas across the street which offers lots of choices.

We didn't spend much time in our room so the following small issues didn't affect us too much:
Small bedside lamps didn't provide adequate light for bedtime reading.
Frosted glass bath doors allow light into the room if someone uses bathroom during the night.
Limited counter space on stylish bath vanities. Sink lighting inadequate.
Weird window blinds didn't function well and allowed sight lines into one of our rooms from higher floor rooms which were in a wing perpendicular to our room. Blinds also did not adequately shut out the early morning light.

Despite the above issues, I am rating a 5 because of outstanding staff, cleanliness and value.

had 3 nights at the Hotel Charles - lovely lovely space to be in and a good room rate for the quality of the room and fittings. Bed was comfy and the shower was AMAZING. Housekeeping standards were very high and the FOH staff greeted us each time we walked in the door. the Cafe food was ok - my meal was great but my partner not so impressed. good location for the CBD and there are many recommended eateries in Charles Street should you decide to step out.

Wonderful spacious, clean, modern rooms. Reception staff were very helpful and the restaurant service and food was excellent. The foyer design and fireplace was very inviting as was the lounge. A fantastic job done converting a hospital into a first class hotel, loved the wide hallways and high ceilings.

We have been staying here for 5 nights while house is renovated.
Rooms are modern and clean.
Restaraunt and room service is very nice.
Close to lots of cafes and towns.
Chose a room on the hospital side - our rooms even though modern and clean was very darks.

Room Tip: Hospital side of the hotel for sunlight.
