“A lovely weekend”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 17, 2013

Hotel Charles was our choice for a spontaneoud getaway...check in staff were very accommodating, including free upgrade to King Studio. Rooms were spacious and warm, bathroom was huge....and a highlight was brunch in the inhouse restaurant, best gluten-free bread I've had and all made in-house! Would definately stay again!! Good location within walking distance of City.

Room Tip: Ask for any available up-grades and a city view

Stayed here for five days in April. Very clean, modern hotel. Approximately 10 to 15 min (walking) from CBD which is handy (if you can cope with going up and down the hills!). Reception staff were very helpful and always there to lend a hand when needed. My only had criticism would be the free wireless internet - there is an issue connecting with MAC devices - this is a bit annoying but the staff told me that this is an ongoing issue. My only other comment would be the public access computers (which I did have to use), it would be nice if they were a little bit more private - especially if you are unable to connect to the WIFI and you want to check your banking etc.

The hotel is approximately 20 minutes walk from the centre of town. The building is relatively new with good beds and a modern bathroom with a walk-in shower. The rooms are not large but adequate for a short stay. Although there is a hospital opposite, we heard no noise and had a good night's sleep.
Due to the distance into town, we decided to eat in the restaurant. As the restaurant is relatively small it is essential to reserve a table as otherwise you may have a long wait for a table. The food was good and the service very good.
Wi-Fi is available free of charge - a pleasant surprise for Australian hotels!

I stay here every 6-8 weeks when I come to Launceston for work. The accommodation is lovely - - modern and always very clean. There are great views of the city if you're in a room at the front of the hotel too. But, please let me tell you about the food.....it never disappoints. The menu includes a pleasing variety of fresh and very tasty food. The warm salmon and scallop salad is divine, and the dessert menu is very tempting....I rarely have dessert, but the pistachio creme caramel with home made ice cream and toffee was delightful. The chef is fabulous! The meals come out quickly even on their busy nights, which is great for the hungry traveller, and the waiters are very friendly and eager to accommodate your requests if they can.

Modern, clean, excellent facilities. Central location, coffee shops and restaurants just accross the road. Staff were very helpful. We stayed in an apartment with kitchen facilities which was well equipped and very clean. Great place to stay.Waling distance to shops and supermarket etc.

We stayed one night while touring Tasmania. The Charles is a smart modern hotel converted from a hospital (though you wouldn't know it). it's a little way out from the centre (10 min walk). Friendly helpful staff. Free wifi. Excellent restaurant.

The staff were lovely the room clean and small good size bathroom with great shower. The breakfast was freshly cooked and lovely unfortunately the evening meal of Wagyu steak over cooked and tough as boots. The hotel is close to the hospital and not much else you need a car to get around there isn't much on offer at the hotel no pool sauna or gym. A little over priced .
