“Couldn't fault it!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 8, 2013

We stayed at The Barn for two nights before Christmas and wished we could stay longer! We chose The Barn based on the reviews on TripAdvisor and were not disappointed. It was a great start to our holiday and a perfect stop over on our way from Melbourne to Beachport.
We found the staff very friendly and helpful, in fact they called us on the day were were due to arrive to see if we wanted to eat at the steakhouse as it was getting booked out. We did, and we were so impressed we went back the second night and ate there again.
The room was so lovely to relax in with every creature comfort. We also enjoyed strolling around the grounds enjoying the many aspects of the property. Breakfast was also delicious (I could eat that bircher museli every day!)
One tip - you need a car as The Barn is a fair way out of town. We loved the location as it was so peaceful but it may not suit everyone.

Room Tip: We booked a "Deluxe King Suite" for two nights for $335.50 (including $5.50 card fee) thro...

Originally booked the newer accommodation for 2families - x1 king suite + x1 twin (queen bed + single bed) however had to cancel booking due to unforeseen circumstances which required us to stay longer in Adelaide. Robyn & Wendy kindly agreed to move our booking a day later-instead of the suites, the we were accommodated @ The House as they were heavily booked. That was really very kind of them to have allowed us to do it given the short notice.
This review is for The House:
The Barn Accommodation & Restaurant appears to have undergone a major face lift- almost all buildingslook great! The House & a series of units adjacent to the house look like the original buildings.
Upon arrival at The House, we found it to be quite adequate for our needs. The interior of the house itself appears to have had a little update as well. The house is huge!!! Best suited to people who travel in bigger groups. They have 3 rooms w double/ queen beds + another room w 2 single beds in it. The bathrooms & toilets are very clean. The house even has a huge laundry room!
The Barn Steakhouse is a Must Try for steak lovers!!!
The accommodation is a few kilometres out of town & a few minutes' drive to the Blue Lake.
Would definitely come back if we head back up to Mt. Gambier,
Highly recommended.

After spending three average nights in Torquay (vic) it was a pleasure to reach the Barn in Mount Gambia. Pleasant reception on arrival and shown to our very large accommodation. Everything was perfect..king size beautifully made bed, lounge, dinning setting outdoor table/ courtyard ..mini bar for a well earned beer and extremely peaceful after a long drive from vic..to top things off the hotel boasts a fantastic steakhouse. Whilst the restaurant was fully booked, testament to its excellence (Wednesday night) , however, thankfully,we were squeezed in at 8 o' clock.. I must say we really did have the best steak in a very long time. Breakfast this morning again was a very pleasant experience..I would certainly recommend a stay at The Barn to anyone..high praise from this traveller.

Stayed here as a half way point on the way from Melbourne to Kangaroo Island. 6 adults in adjoining family suite.
Very clean, modern and spacious.
Beds comfortable apart from the sofa bed which was basic - mattress no good for an adult.
Could have done with a kitchenette to do an early breakfast for ourselves. Minimal supply of teabags, tiny kettle.
Had a good evening meal in the steakhouse - excellent steaks.

Room Tip: family suite - adjoining rooms 44 45

Upon arrival we found the gardens and reception to be very well presented, the staff were welcoming and friendly. We stayed in a garden view room, excellent especially for the price, the room is modern, very clean, quiet and even has a nice selection of teas. It is about 5 minutes out of town, lovely location providing you have a car to get from a to b. I would have no hesitation in staying here again.

We were driving from Adelaide to Melbourne and came across this hotel and decided to stay. The rooms were large, clean and overlooked the garden. The grounds are extremely well maintained. The bed was comfortable and I don't know many people that wouldn't be happy staying at this hotel.

In looking for accommodation at Mt Gambier 12 months ago, Tripadvisor highlighted The Barn. We booked an 'ultimate gourmet getaway' which included accommodation in a King Suite, a 3 course meal at the Barn Steakhouse, and a cooked breakfast. The experience brought us back this December. The room is huge, with a kingsize bed, table (and chairs) , a sofa and a large TV. All rooms have a wonderful garden outlook. At this time of year the gardens are magnificent. Our dinners (steak of course) were excellent, as was the breakfast.
The beautiful room, the great meals and good service make this an indulgence that we hope to repeat regularly.

Room Tip: It is worth choosing the King suite over the Garden View rooms.
