4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2013

we were staying on the 10th floor in a wheelchair access room (104) that has rails for both toilet and shower with a shower chair. in terms of the bathroom, it was modern and very convenient for our needs. the bed was modern, it seemed bigger than a queen and very comfortable, also easily accessible for our needs. the room itself was ok, new tv. the room was very clean. would recommend this room for anyone who is in a wheelchair. a bit of a tight fit in the corridor leading into the room but we managed fine. breakfast was included in the price and was good. staff very friendly and helpful.

Very nice and clean rooms. Fully nicely renovated bathrooms and comfortable bed with clean linen.
We used their free parking at the side for the night and enjoyed our stay.
Complimentary continental breakfast was served at level 9 and had a wonderful view.
I would stay again and request a higher level to enjoy the beautiful views.

Thank you for your wonderful review. I’m glad you enjoyed your stay. The view from our 9th, 10th and 11th floor rooms are fantastic. Especially the rooms overlooking the Marina.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 4, 2013

To me, this is a charming old building with lots of character. I stayed in room 91 on the 9th floor. A few weeks before arriving I sent an email asking if my room could have a view of the marina, and my request was granted. The view was absolutely beautiful, and easily the establishment's best asset.

I was pleasantly surprised with the room. It was very spacious, and featured a large Samsung flat screen mounted on the wall, very comfortable bed and fresh looking linen. The bathroom was great - newly renovated, white, bright and well designed. The cylindrical design of the building make for interesting angles in the room - a really nice change from standard hotel room layouts.

Again, the view was AMAZING. from the ocean to the left, the park and marina in the middle, to the airport and even city on the right, the view was beautiful during the day and at night. The location is fantastic - close to shops, restaurants, beach and the tram. Another positive is the cleanliness. I stayed for three days, and the room was cleaned to a very high standard every time.

The one negative, (and this was quite a big negative for me), was the abrasive manner of the staff member at check in. A smile and some patience would make guests feel more at ease as opposed to glares and sighs. A different staff member was at the desk at check out and was lovely.

I loved my stay at this hotel, and if it weren't for check in, I would have easily given a rating of 5 based on value for money, cleanliness, location, and that view.

Room Tip: Ask for a marina view room! And try for as high up as possible =)

Thank you for taking the time to submit a review. I’m glad you enjoyed your stay. The views are definitely one of the motel’s best assets and we’re more than happy to accommodate specific views if available. I certainly think it’s nicer to stay down the bay than stay in the city when traveling to Adelaide, and with everything in Glenelg within walking distance, why not?

I apologise if you felt the staff member who checked you in was a little abrasive. We have addressed this with the person involved so that it won’t happen again.

Our unit was reasonably furnished but what really set this place apart was the great views of Adelaide. We also had a free breakfast which offered plenty of variety. The staff at Reception were approachable and respectful. The standard of cleaning was not up to standard and the manager should ensure that regular inspections are conducted because we were frustrated with a couple of things not working.

Thank you for taking the time to submit some feedback. We carry out daily inspections of our rooms so I apologise if something was missed or not up to standard. We would love to get more information from you regarding what room you were in and what was not working so that we can rectify the problem.

We stayed on the 11th Floor, the rooms were comfortable and the bathroom was a good size. There was a little table with two chairs and the view was overlooking parklands and the main street (Anzac Highway). You could see the sea and the pier and all the restaurants located on the pier. This hotel offered a continental breakfast in the price and car parking in the daily rate. There is a revolving restaurant on the 12th floor serving evening meal. I would recommend this motor inn and look forward to returning in the near future.

Room Tip: Rooms to the rear of the round building have a view of the Adelaide Hills at night all lite up. The...

Will not return. Negative experience all round. Don't waste your money at $150 per night!

We were return guests recently and the second time around here was terrible.

We ended up in the worst room in the hotel...level 1...no balcony...no bath...no view...directly opposite the elevator. Last time we paid the same amount and ended up higher up with balcony and spa. We did not complain though.

On our second night we were kept up for several hours after midnight by a male yelling profanities next door and constant banging/slamming. Again, we did not complain.

On the third night, the noise was far worse next door and went from about 4am through till almost 7. We complained around 8am. We were informed that another guest had made a complaint as well. As there were no other rooms available to move to (strange...as I don't recall seeing another guest in the three days we were there...in a quiet period of the year? I think there's a fair few people living there though), we were basically informed that we would need to find another hotel...and if we struggled then maaaybe they could ask the noisy guy to check out!!! Also smelled smoke on non-smoking floor...appeared to come out window from noisy guy next to us.

Needless to say, we checked out and we were told that we would be fully reimbursed. By this...all it meant was...we would not have to pay for the final night...in which we were not going to be staying there anymore anyway! No actual, decent reimbursement was offered for the other nights.

I would not go back as I do not want to risk paying hundreds and ending up in an unfortunate room and having to put up with noisy neighbours. Staff were pretty unhelpful generally.

Room Tip: Ask exactly what sort of room you are getting before booking, how busy it is etc. But there's be...

Hello Mrs B.

We’ve been looking forward to your review – it’s even more exaggerated than we imagined! We always look forward to seeing how far a small (but perfectly valid) complaint can get blown way beyond proportion.

If I could firstly suggest that you could take a moment to re-read your review, and exchange the word “communicate” in place of “complain” – do you think your stay may have turned out differently?

I’ll just clarify some of the facts for the astute travellers that can pick the credible reviews from the vexatious ones…

The ‘worst room’ as you describe it was in fact refurbished from wall to wall & floor to ceiling less than 10 months ago. The very same ones that were inspected by AAA Tourism two months ago and given a score worthy of 4 stars (our overall motel rating is still 3.5). Furthermore you paid $150/night over a weekend in the height of peak season when Glenelg averages $180+.

Now let us compare to last time – you stayed in a tired 10 year old spa room (which has now been demolished and rebuilt into a disabled access room), in the middle of the week during the shoulder season at $175. So the ‘worst room’ at the ‘same’ price… I’d call that an ‘interesting perspective’. But… you did not complain.

On your second night you were unfortunately neighbouring some unruly guests. I note that you mentioned that ‘you did not complain’. Why would one not pick up the phone to call the night manager, say the words “someone on our floor is disturbing us” and have the problem resolved immediately?

Then during the third night, you experienced a similar disturbance from what I understand was the same guest… again, you did not complain. It never ceases to amaze me that some people are perfectly willing to wait until a week AFTER the problem, sign up to Tripadvisor and write a review to vent their frustrations – rather than communicate to someone WHEN an issue arises.

Only on the last morning did you voice your concerns to someone. This was about 10 minutes after another guest notified us of the problem. Now that management had information that there was a disturbance, we could solve the problem. After an investigation into the matter, the guests causing the disturbance were escorted out of the premises within 2 hours of the complaint.

The rest of your comments about being told to leave, being fully reimbursed and so on are where you have really excelled with your creativity, so I won’t bother trying to invalidate them. What I will say is the letter of apology you received from us offering you free accommodation in the future is no longer valid…

Perhaps you should complain…?

Regards,
James Brown
