“Disappointing experience”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 12, 2013

A group of family and friends met here for lunch and birthday celebrations. Unfortunately the table which we had booked was taken by another group, but after some waiting, the staff set up a table for us. The cafe itself is located in a lovely location surrounded by a few other little gift/art stores which adds to the atmosphere. It has all sorts of great little knick-knacks and treats for purchase. There is a lovely view of the mountains in the background and a grassy area for kids to run around.
Unfortunately the food was so overpriced and disappointing that even the beautiful scenery couldn't save the experience for us.
I paid nearly $18 for a very simple pie and 'gourmet' salad which was nothing more than an average pie with garden salad and dressing. My husband ordered their club 'cottage' sandwich which was basically a sandwich in thick bread with a very thick slick of turkey luncheon meat. Absolutely horrible!! Looking around at the table apart from the nachos which looked average nothing that anyone had ordered appeared particularly appetising. There is a large display cabinet of various chocolates which you can purchase and this definitely adds to the experience but even the chocolates are nothing out of the ordinary which is a shame. The service itself was ok but nothing to remember or want to come back for -this café obviously gets its customers coming for the atmosphere and view because the food was awful and completely overpriced!! Very disappointing experience!

“Pricey, but lovely place to relax”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 12, 2013

Been going here for a few years. The food is always very good, but it is rather pricey. Expect to pay $20+ for a meal. Decent portion size, doesn't really cater for kids on the menu. If you have children bring something for them to do - there is a large grassy area, but no distractions provided.
Bring a hat or sunnies if you plan on eating outside - the sun can be savage in the afternoons.
Set in the middle of several other shops, so can be a nice, relaxing afternoon.

“A total package - great food / atmosphere / location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 28, 2013

Just 15 minutes from Toowoomba on the New England Highway located at the charming village of Highfields is this little gem. A rustic style cottage with the option to dime inside, on the verandah or enjoy the outdoor village green area . Order from an extensive menu from light to gourmet meals and mouthwatering desserts. Browse the inside cafe for fresh local produce and giftware, or try the homemade chocolates.
The food is delicious

“Nice for visitors”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 16, 2013

The Chocolate Cottage is a great destination if you have visitors - the setting has nice views and the deli shop invites you to browse. Also, the food is very good, but portions are a tad bit too small and quite pricey considering it is a cafe only (even at lunch time). Expect to spend $30 per person. I would still recommend this for a nice lunch with friends and family!
