Having lived in Mackay for some years now, and knowing that a "dining experience" in Mackay usually ends with disappointment and a fairly large bill, we and our friends decided we could not loose visiting this restaurant after reading the five rave reviews presented on tripadvisor. Just how wrong can you get? After reading these reviews and the raves about the steak menu, of course we were all going for the 250 gram Tasmanian eye fillet, but on ordering this on a Friday evening were told "sorry, the guy who delivers the eye fillet did not come today, perhaps you might like to try the special of the day - a 400 gram TBone steak"?. Immediately the shackles went up, how can you compare an eye fillet with a TBone?. We settled on a char grilled "rib fillet" which came all by itself, no vegetables of any sort, and every steak turned up cindered. A "garden salad" which consisted of some Iceberg lettuce and the left overs from the Cesas served to other diners, came with a price tag of $8. One of our party asked if they may get some sparkling water... "you do have sparkling water don't you?"." I will check was the response" as the waitress went to inquire. "Yes we do she replied on return, we have soda water and tonic water".
On expressing our dissatisfaction to the floor manager as we paid for our expensive tasteless meals, we were met with a shrug as the manager turned and left us standing there. Ah, fine dining in Mackay.
