“Nature at your doorstep”

Binna Burra Mountain Lodge

We stayed at both Binna Burra and O'Reilly's. Binna Burra is more laid back, less pretentious and less crowded. Also the road in is not quite as scary!
Both offer excellent hiking / wildlife viewing opportunities. One difference is that at Binna Burra, handfeeding the wildlife is discouraged, whereas at O'Reilly's it is encouraged. You really earn your wildlife views at Binna Burra.
The rooms were not posh as at O'Reilly's but quite comfortable and closer to nature (as opposed to in a parking lot!)
The food was fine, although we did have trouble with inadequate numbers of vegetarian options.

“Big disappointment”

Binna Burra Mountain Lodge

We stayed (2 adults and 2 children) over New Year. The location and accommodation were very attractive and the staff friendly and helpful. The big disappointment was the food and this overshadowed our entire visit. Not only was it unimaginative (eg. dry pizza as the vegetarian option) but it was also at times badly cooked. My daughter found her chicken red inside and the other options not much better. Breakfast was a slight improvement although the cooked option had been kept under lights too long and was cold. All in all, considering the price (not cheap), we were very dissatisfied.

We visited here as part of a round the world trip we took as a family of 7 with young kids. We enjoyed our stay here as we were in need of a chill out period and Binna Burra gave us just that. It is quite antiquated but we felt that this was part of its appeal. Yes they are a bit disorganised but come on, you are on holidays. Its not work!
If they get their act together on the organisation of activities, this place would be a great reminder of how life used to be and still should be in many respects. Don't go there expecting a five start resort approach. Go there expecting a glorified camping experience and you will get what you expect.
On the practical side, the kids club was low tech but my three middle kids (6-11) loved it. The breakfast was good but the dinners were just okay. There is a more modern cafe near the camp site that was good. The walks and wildlife are great. We stayed in a Casuarina Cabin.

Staff are caught up in changes due to an entirely new board in November 2007. Many staff resigned due to previous management and new management is attempting to restore the "old Binna Burra".
Staff are rude and generally unhelpful to patrons. Room cleaning is ad hoc. A few try hard to make up for their rude collegues. Announced suppers/teas failed to happen due to poor front/back office communication.
Meals are not planned and are prepared by various temporary chefs/cooks, etc. Evening Meals are slopped on to plates and mostly consist of entree style dishes with noodles and/or rice. Over 4 nights we never saw a chop or piece of individual meat. Vegetables(carrots/beans) were served on one night only. Stale, discoloured wine was served to several guests before being discarded at guest direction to do so.
Christmas lunch was excellent due to an outside chef presiding .
Maintenance is poor and our room leaked over the doorway. The shower door came off its rollers trapping the cleaner. Husband to the rescue!
Management acknowledged the issues as valid and credited one night's tariff.
Check and ask around before booking again to see how things are going......
Still we met some amazing and talented guests who helped us make our own fun..... and the scenery is to die for!

Go to Binna Burra for the wildlife. We saw so many beautiful birds, 2
red belly black snake, a carpet python going up a tree and much more.
We stayed in an Acacia cabin. The room was clean, but it was not a cabin. It was a room in a long path of rooms with a views over a cliff. The bed was way too soft, and around the room could be loud until about 10pm. But everyone was there for the wildlife and went to bed early. If you go, do the breakfast and dinner plan. The roads
to and from Binna Burra are curvey and nothing is close to the resort. The food was good, but it would have been costly if we had not done the DBB. We really enjoyed our 3 days in Lamingtion Park. The staff were great and helped you plan your bush walks. All the paths were well marked and well kept.
