Comfortable room for business stay, furniture is at strange angles. Nice views, Lovely Lagoon pool that was too cold to use given the weather, Professional and attentive staff, Just one gripe: Firestone restaurant do not do roomservice, and the roomservice menu is just plain boring!

We had a fantastic time at the Hyatt Regency Sanctuary Cove. The staff are friendly and very helpful. The facilities are second to none. We especially enjoyed the lagoon. Breakfasts daily were something to look forward to with everything you can imagine. The hotel caters for familys and the Kids Club is great. We will definately be back.

My husband and I spent 3 nights at this hotel over new year.

We were very disappointed for the following reasons:

1. We booked a Queenslander Suite @ AUD$600/night. The room was tired (as was most of the hotel) without any views whatsoever. To us, it was overpriced for the standard it provided.

2. All residents of Sanctuary Cove are allowed to use the pool. This means in peak times be prepared to fight for a deck chair. It feels like you are at a public pool, not at a 5 star hotel.

3. Forget about enjoying lunch on your battled for deck chair - no eating round the pool area. Funnily enough the locals bring their own eskies!

The Club was ok, get there early if you want a seat if the hotel is busy. The staff could not tell us what was in the canapes - no good if you are allergic to shellfish!

Lastly, I have addressed all these concerns in a letter to the hotel and 3 weeks later and 3 resends, they havent even bothered to reply!

If the hotel represented it self as about a 3.5 -4 star, it would be ok, but to say it is 5 star is seriously overrated.

We wouldnt stay here again.

  • Liked — good breakfast, nice staff
  • Disliked — Public access to pool

This is a very comfortable hotel if you are abled bodied. Great facilities, two pools and all the amenities expected of a 5 star hotel. Looking a little tired though and in need of some updating.
Staff are helpful in the main. Set meal at christmas was disappointing, still hungry afterwards, not enough veg, turkey a bit dry. Staff failed to follow through on the free wine every 3 days during stay only got one bottle.

Even though the disability access act [DDA 1992] came into being more than 15 years ago this hotel has not made any effort what so ever to provide facilities. The so called disabled rooms have standard door widths with step, the bathrooms are too small to fit a wheelchair or commode in. The whole site does not have any ramps and is on many levels making a stay by an independent manual wheelchair user impossible and unsafe. There is no disabled parking and no safe unloading point at the front door. Having said that the staff did pull out all the stops to convert a room so that we could stay there for the week and we did manage. They say they are updating the facilities in June 2009, so watch this space.

  • Liked — very nice setting
  • Disliked — no facilities for wheelchair users

We spent the weekend at the Hyatt in November. Booked a club room at a good price & were upgraded to a suite at check-in which was much appreciated - the suite was a great size & well furnished.

We ate at all three of the hotel outlets - The Fireplace food is fantastic, pool bar was fine - the Cove Cafe food was fine but the service was rather lacking (lunch).

The club area is a fairly small room in the middle of the resort - the nightly Canapes were fantastic and the Breakfast was fine.

Overall great service - in particular from Reception staff & Fireplace staff - the only lacking area was really the Cove Cafe where we seemed to be totally forgotten for half an hour.

Facilities are good - the lagoon pool is fantastic and is huge - plenty of room for a mix of people to all have their own space. A bit of a lack of chairs/shady areas but apart from that all good.

A short walk away there are a number of shops & restaurants.

Our only additional comment would be that some of the local shop keepers & guests seemed a little "snobby".

Overall a decent resort for a quick weekend getaway - great food & big grounds. It's a bit aged and is by no means a top 5 star resort but is still a great spot to enjoy a few days!

  • Liked — The food & pool!
