“Quiet, fantastic views”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 19, 2011

I took my mother for a trip away for a couple of days, and she loved the position. the place itself was clean and quiet, and the stafff were very helpful.
Only thing we were a bit disapointed by was the pool was being renovated and we would of loved to have a swim. but apart from that everything was great. Would have no hesitation in recomending for other people to visit

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We are pleased you and your mother enjoyed your stay. We apologise you were unable to enjoy the pool but you will pleased that the renovations have now finished and looking fabulous, ready for you to enjoy on your next visit.

We wanted a relaxing week by the sea and were not disappointed. We had a spacious apartment on the top floor with stunning views and WOW factor.Although furniture and fittings little dated everything was clean and in working order. We had use of swimming pool to ourselves most times and the easy access to beach was just great. We loved Coolangatta, only five minutes drive and the noise from the airport did not bother us,in fact it was quite a sight to watch them coming in to land.We were grateful to get our keys early, before 11am as we had flown in on an early long haul flight . We would love to return to San Simeon and Australia once again.

Probably a little on the pricey side based on the condition and cleanliness of the unit. I think we paid $215 for one night - way too much for what it was. Great location for these apartments as they are beachfront but just need alot of work and a good clean.

Alot of basic provisions missing. There was only one bath towel provided for each bedroom and this was for 4 people. There were no bins in the apartment either and they didn't provide some of the basic bathroom provisions. If we stayed again, I would probably ask to inspect the unit prior to the booking and ask for a room on a higher floor next time, simply for the privacy as you could see right into the apartments on the lower floors from the beach, yard and pool areas. The balcony area had not been cleaned and the table and chairs had not been wiped down. The carpets in the living area had some debris and had not been cleaned. Alot of basic maintenance is needed for the unit that we stayed in. The kitchen draw laminates were all peeling off, the hot water system was constantly dripping water, the kettle was really old and grotty and some of the timber blinds were in disrepair with rods snapped off so they didn't close properly anymore.

Room Tip: Recommend asking to view the room prior to booking

We have been coming to San Simeon for years and unfortunately this will most probably will be our last time. We have seen the standard of both rooms and service gradually diminish.
This time the room was clean on initial "walk in" but we found sand on one of the bed sheets, dirt on the floor. While we had booked for 7 days, 1 roll of toilet paper was supplied, went to plug the computer into 1 power socket - got sparks, tried another got a mild shock. When i approached managemnt, I was told "Oh, thats nothing to worry about, its quiet normal". Iam sorry it IS something to worry about so far as electricity is concerned.
The ensuite may heve been recently refurbished, but the shelf above the basin had about a 30 degree slope. (loose on the wall) so nothing would stay on it.
I approached management about changing car park and got a flat "No". I asked if they had any takeaway menus from the local restaurants - which are very good - "Oh no"
It just seemed that everything was too much trouble. I am not trying to be picky but it is the little things that make a BIG difference to how one feels about staying somewhere.
The location is wonderful, as is the location of many other apartments at Tugun, so we will be holidaying at Tugun again, just not here.
It IS disappointing to see what was once a VERY nice place to stay going through its inevitable demise under current management.

We wish to thank this reviewer for their comments and are sorry their stay was not as enjoyable as it should have been.
All our apartments are self contained and as such we provide each apartment with a starter pack of basic's such as toilet paper etc. As in any apartment situation subsequent supplies are then up to the guest.
As management we have set a high standard of service and maintaining the apartments to a high level of cleanliness. We are sorry the guest did not come down to tell us there was a problem with the cleaning of the apartment and to give us the opportunity to rectify this. On informing us of the problem with the power point management went directly up to the apartment to test and if necessary take the appropriate action. At the time of testing there did not appear to be any electrical fault which would cause any harm. As we are totally beachfront & in Queensland, with high humidity levels, there are times when there is a build up of moisture behind switches which can cause a slight problem when touched. We have had numerous checks when this has been reported but has been explained and cleared by our electrician and it is not deemed to be a safety issue. At no time do we ignore any concerns regarding this problem. All apartments are fitted with safety switches as per Australian Electrical Standards.
As per Body Corp Bylaws there is one allocated car space per apartment and street parking for any additional vehicles.
We wish the reviewer many more years of enjoyable stay's in the area.

I chose these apartments for one reason - beachfront location. And I wasnt disappointed. I concur with some previous reviewers that there is some aircraft noise, as the planes land at Coolangatta airport behind the building. I have some wicked photos of how close they are on landing. But this had absolutely no impact on my stay (it was actually unique and quite cool to watch from the beach!) I barely noticed the noise, so it isnt too bad.

But the view from the apartments is something truly special. The soothing sound of the waves drowns out most other noise. We could see Surfers in the distance to the north, and Coolangatta to the South. Tugun beach is quiet in comparison to other parts of the coast, and very relaxing.

The apartment grounds are well maintained (fastidiously - the manager spent one day mowing the lawns to within an inch of their lives!) We had a Standard apartment - it was clean with 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, a toilet off the laundry also. The furnishings were basic but clean. The TV was very old school, but I wasnt there to watch Wheel of Fortune. There is a supermarket (Foodworks, so pretty expensive) in Tugun, and a few liquor stores and a servo and pub. All about 5 mins walk. The apartments are approx 3 klms from Coolangatta airport. Underground secure parking is provided (one space per unit).

I will be back (when its not school holidays and prices are more affordable), as nothing beats a beautiful sunny day by the beach relaxing.... The manager Shirene was very friendly and a pleasure to deal with, I recommend you give San Simeon a try.
