“normally great but this time quite average”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 1, 2012

I have been a great fan of Earth & Sea for many many years since its early days in Byron Bay, but something is happening and its not a good something. A recent Sunday lunch visit to the nearly deserted Coolangatta restaurant was quite dissappointing.

The service was extra-ordinarily slow (remember they were almost deserted). Only the one staff member wiling to serve tables while the rest of the staff seemed to disappear, either they have cut back on the staff numbers too much or the staff they have cut back on the staff quality.

The food however is the main reason you go to an Earth & Sea restaurant and usually I adore their pizza, but something is not quite right here either..they skimped on the toppings!! Aaaargh. You know what its like when a pizza is not topped all the way to the edge of the dough, yep that's right it bubbles up with just a smear of sauce. Its not a good expereience when you pay a substantial price for pizza and then feel you have been shortchanged a little.

For what is worth I hope this experience is a once off, but if it becomes the norm at the Coolangatta restaurant, don't say you weren't warned.

“Don't bother, especially if you are gluten free”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed February 27, 2012

Expensive, and despite being given a gluten free pizza base they obviously have no understanding about things like cross-contamination as I was sick within half an hour of eating it.

Not recommended, and I certainly wouldn't go back.

“Don't bother, there are better places to choose from.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed February 26, 2012 via mobile

Me and my partner went here as this place boasts about it's awards but really it's just an average pizza/pasta place. The pizza was not great at all, had hardly any flavour and the crust was chewy like it had been recooked. Pasta was very plain too and also had no flavour. The prices are far too high for the quality you get. The service was ok but really really slow and it wasn't even busy, maybe 4 tables were occupied. I truly recommend you go elsewhere and find a nicer place to eat with much better value for money and food that actually has flavour. There are plenty of better places along marine parade.

“Busy but nice”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2012

We ate there on a Saturday night and it was very busy as it was at the end of the school holidays. Food was nice, not large serves but service quite good. Good for families.

“Very Popular - good variety”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 9, 2012

They provide a good variety of gourmet style pizza - Up market from the fast food places - Service can be slow on busy evenings - Popular with locals so that says they are good value - Location opposite the beachfront at Coolangatta - Listen to the Lorikeets whilst you dine Al Fresco and take a walk along the beach to walk it off
