“Recently refurbished,Great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 12, 2013

We stayed here recently and were very impressed with the service, location (close to the beach restaurants and the airport), cleanliness and the hotel/ apartment we had and the beautiful pool. We had a 2 bedroom executive suite on the 4th floor (Rm 464). Its actually a 2 story apartment with a 5th floor, with all the living area upstairs and a small bacony with table and chairs. The weather was a bit wet when we arrived and we could not use it as it had no cover but the next morning was beautiful. It all looked recently renovated but the carpet was looking a little worn in places (thats the only fault that I could find). The kitchen is well appointed and the beds were really comfy and even though it was Friday the first night, very quiet at night also . I would highly recommend this hotel and would most certainly stay here again !

Room Tip: Choose any room facing the ocean. Our apartment faced NE would be protected in Southerly winds. Beac...

I have to say that this is one of the nicest apartments we have ever stayed in, and for $144 a night, why would you go anywhere else? This is a four story block in the centre of town. There is parking space out front, and overnight parking with a boom gate in the basement. Reception is friendly and helpful. Our apartment is on the top floor with a pleasant balcony with chairs. We have an inland view, but it is an interesting urban landscape - spread out and dotted with high rise. The layout is fairly conventional with kitchen/dining/living, bedroom, and ensuite. There is central air conditioning plus a ceiling fan in the bedroom, and a separate air conditioning unit in the living area. All the rooms are spacious. The full kitchen is extremely well equipped, with cupboards of crockery and saucepans, and drawers of cutlery. Also a fridge with freezer, microwave, and small flat top cooking top. The lounge has a dining setting for four, a comfortable lounge and a flat screen TV. The bedroom has a comfortable Queen sized bed, another TV, a double wardrobe with mirror doors, excellent lighting, and floor to ceiling windows looking out over the balcony. The bathroom is also large and contains a washing machine and dryer. The shower - bracing and with instant hot water - is over the bath with a shower curtain. There is a pull-out clothes line too. There are plenty of soaps and shampoos etc. The whole apartment is light and bright and attractive, except for the two paintings hanging on the walls: blobs of abstract colour, but perhaps I'm a Philistine when it comes to art! We'd come here again. A week later ... And we did! For a small premium we now have a pool side room facing the sea. The apartment is a mirror image of our previous unit, but this one has a larger balcony. The enormous free form pool in its landscaped setting with a hot spa pool alongside is a delight - at least to behold! I thought it would be nice listening to the sea, but traffic noise is intrusive during the day with sliding doors open, and at night we feel the need to keep the doors closed for security reasons. It would by good if they could be locked while open a fraction. Sitting on the balcony in the evening is pleasant, and even better in the morning sunshine. A bad discovery this time: there is no free wifi! After a week staying in a variety of local motels all with free wifi, I assumed this was universal practice, and have come to expect it. So would I stay here again? This time I'm not quite so sure!! But on balance, probably.

Room Tip: A beach side room on Level 4 might be a good choice.

My husband and I stayed here for a week in a small one bedroom apartment with a glimpse of the beach. The staff were very friendly, the location is great and the parking easy. Lots of restaurants, clubs etc in walking distance. Spent lots of meal times at the various surf life saving clubs down the coast. Fabulous way to spend a week in the sunshine.

Room Tip: Room 360 is above the trash pickup area which was noisy early in the morning

Enjoyable stay all round. But don't book your holidays threw "leisure holidays.com" they are a bunch of thieves. I book for 3, had to cancel one due to health reasons, would not refund. A bunch of thieves and very unprofessional.

Room Tip: Don't book your holidays threw "leisure holidays.com" they are a bunch of thieves.

2nd time stayed at this property. Ii'd say it's a 3.5 star.
room-1 bedroom apartment facing the water.balcony, great air con, full laundry and bathroom in one including w/m and dryer as well as full kitchenette with stovetop, good variety of cookware and full fridge and small d/washer.all clean and overall good value.only improvement would be the sheets on the bed.
property- great pool, waterslide and spa. great waterslide though only open part of the day. spa very nice though jets weren't working throughout our stay.cant comment on the bar as again it was NEVER OPEN throughout our 4 night stay (same as last time we went as well)
location- awesome. right in the heart of coolangatta, near the bus stops, shops, aldi and most importantly the beach.shower facilities that can be used after checkout.
overall would stay again...only negative that Ii think isn't worth the profits made is that the property now CHARGES FOR THE USE OF POOL TOWELS. The fee is only $1.50 per towel but just a huge downer and I think it cheapens the place.
upgrade the rest of your lifts and remove the pool towel fee as it leaves a bitter taste in the mouth.
p.s- single couple w no kids. the place is popular amongst families and admittedly we tend to go during the week and outside of school holidays so we could enjoy the pool.

Room Tip: oceanview a must

Thank you for the review on your stay at Calypso Plaza, it's great to hear that you will be coming to stay again. The restaurant and bar area currently operate only through the peak season. The resort is definitely in an ideal location, walking distance to restaurants, cafes and supermarkets. We look forward to welcoming you back again.

What a lovely place to stay! Lovely staff on check in. Arrived early and lucky for us, our apartment was ready. Looked right across our huge balcony to Coolangatta Beach. Was absolutely perfect. Large, open, bright apartment, was really nice and staff couldn't do enough for us. Will definately be going back there!!

Room Tip: Ask for ocean view, just beautiful to look out across to the beach!
