“Above my expectations”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 9, 2011

Stayed here 1 night it was our over night stop driving from Sydney to Kingscliff.

Positives:
• Self contained room with a small kitchen. Includes main utensils such as kettle, toaster, microwave and fridge.
• Room was fitted with a massive flat screen t, air conditioner / heater and ceiling fan.
• Brick walls separate each room so could not hear guest next door
• Free wifi however we noticed it was turned off in the evening
• Web site we booked accommodation thorough included free continental breakfast which was delivered to our door in the morning.
• Good hot shower.
• Comfy bed very soft.
• Staff were friendly.
• Convenient location close to Port Macquarie town centre

Negatives:
• Can hear when guest next door are using the shower as the water pressure / piping could be heard from our room
• Shower area is a little small – we’re tall people
• We found the lights would flicker every now and then don’t know the source but pretty freaky reminded me of a scene from some horror movie.

It's great to hear feedback whether it's positive or negative and we are glad that we rated above your expectations. We would like to apologise for the wifi not working for you. It is never turned off but we occassionally experience power surges which could have been why your wifi wasn't working and why the lights were flickering. Normally under these circumstances we have to reset the modem for the wifi so if you ever notice this in any property, just let management know so the problem can be rectified asap.
Power dips from wind, severe storms or accidents along the power grid somewhere can all cause the lights to flicker and sometimes blackout. This is out of the control of the indiviual business.
Also, like most buildings the plumbing runs through the walls at some point so some noise may be heard. It doesn't seem to be a huge problem but we understand that it is inevitable that when staying in a motel you will hear some noise from other guests and unfortuneately this cannot be rectified.
Again, thank you for your review...happy travelling!

Stayed here twice. Designated disabled parking outside door. Great website for booking disabled room. Very helpful staff who went out of their way to help when I lost a quad stick at a lookout and also rang us up at 5am when we had an emergency call from a hospital interstate. Plastic garden chair slips a little in wet so take a non slip bath mat. Rails around toilet and shower. Purpose built shower chair would be a great addition.

I looked into the plastic chair slipping in the shower recess and replaced it with a purpose built shower chair.

Myself and my partner stayed here for the night on our drive up to the gold coast. It was our second stopover hotel. We stayed in a disaster of a place the first night so we werent in high hopes of the next being a good place to stay, but we were pleasantly surprised as this place ended up being great. The room was spacious with a balcony, no view really but that didnt bother us we just wanted a good nights sleep. We finally got it here. The bed was comfortable and it was a warm night so we slept with the balcony door open (even though the room did have Air Con). The bathroom was a decent size also. All in all, we would gladly stay here again!

After a brief drive around town looking for a hotel I saw the sign for the Aston which I thought was for the building where the sign was positioned. I then realized the hotel is off the main road on top of the hill. We were looking for a reasonable priced hotel as we didn' want to put up our camper for 1 night. After negotiating the price we located out room which appeared to be brand new. It was large with all you could want - Fridge, Large TV & DVD player, kitchen, desks, couch & chair, comfy bed and large bathroom plus free internet. Hotel is located within walking distance of CBD (1.3k) or a short drive. Staff were excellent a check in and all in all a very comfortable and enjoyable stay. Will be back.

We stayed for one night on a roadtrip from Sydney to Brisbane on 31/03/2010. Arrived quite late in the evening without a reservation but got a really nice room for a reasonable rate.(My efforts at haggling over the price failed miserably!)
Our room was very spacious, nice big bed, very clean (including the bathroom), fully stocked mini-bar with really good prices and a super plasma tv on the wall.
When checking out we met Judy, one of the owners and she was a very friendly and helpful lady. She gave us some good tips on places to visit, such as the local Koala hospital. Well worth a visit!! (Thanks Judy)
The only mishap was quite a funny one - in the morning my boyfriend went to sit outside and the door locked behind him- unfortunately for him I was having a very long shower at the time :)
Overall it was a really good experience, a combination of very good accomodation and friendly owner.

very clean rooms. The best thing about Aston Hill is the property managers, they were so friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble, including driving us to a particular beach to save us walking. Lovely location, nice and quiet away from main road and easy walking distance to shops and water. fabulous place to visit

My husband and I stayed at Aston Hill Motor Lodge on our way to Sydney and were very happy we did. I had read several reviews on trip advisor which seemed to be mixed. Our greeting at the reception was warm and friendly and we were immediately up graded into one of their newer apartments (don't know why). Although other reviewers thought the location of the lodge was a bit far away from all the cafe's etc, if you have a car you are only five minutes from everything. Personally, we liked being a little bit away from late night revellers preferring to get a good nights sleep. Our room was lovely and clean. The new queens size bed was very comfortable and we were able to lie in bed and watch a movie on the giant plasma TV. There was plenty of tea and coffee and yummy biscuits to dunk. Unfortunately there was a party further down the road the night we stayed (which was a Saturday night) but it was all over by midnight and then it was very quiet. This was not the fault of Aston Hill Lodge and could have happened where ever we had stayed. On the whole it appears to be a quiet area. We would definitely stay there again.
