“It is a pity the food let this lovely hotel down.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 21, 2011

This hotel has a lovely setting and is very well located close to everything with water views. The rooms are very spacious and comfortable. The service in the bar was good. We were part of a coach tour staying 4 nights and the food served every night was well below standard even for a coach tour. The menu was not thought out properly, the food poorly prepared and not hot.
I would recommend this hotel to friends but not the restaurant.

My boyfriend and I stayed in this hotel twice on a recent trip up the north coast. It was definitely the nicest of the three hotels we stayed in and the only one that I would stay at again. The rooms were lovely and both rooms were quite large. The second one had a gigantic king bed and had amazing views over the water and pool which was delightful! The first room was much larger with a spa bath (sadly the jets didn't work but it didn't detract from the stay). The staf was friendly and attentive- room service came more quickly than expected and the breakfast is awesome! They have a pancake maker and the pancakes were yum! If there was one thing I could fault the hotel on is that it was too nice and comfortable, we didnt want to leave and explore the rest of port!! Will definitely recommend to others and stay there again myself!

We spent three nights at the Rydges in Port Mcquarie. The hotel was very nice, unfortunately the weather was not- it rained our entire stay. We did manage to use the pool for a couple of hours. The rooms were nice and spacious, good bathroom size and the bed was comfortable. The gym was small but functional- although we opted to run on the adjacent trail instead. Do take advantage of it- even if you only like walking. Take your camera as there are many picture opportunities at hand. The beach water was crisp and warm- just how I like it!
We ate at a couple of local restaurants, and we didn't like any of them. Australia is expensive, and it is a loosing combination when you pair it up with bad food.
Please be advised that most if not all retail establishments close at 5:30 pm- very strange for us. Also, most dinner restaurants won't open until 5:30 and their closing time is ambiguous- depending on the clientele.
We needed a electrical outlet adapter for my cell phone charger and the hotel didn't have one available- I suggest you take your own just in case.
Do visit the Koala sanctuary and leave them a donation.
Take a poncho just in case- as it rained for most of our stay, it's hard to enjoy the sites when you are soaked. We tried buying ponchos, but couldn't find any in town.
We also, did the camel safari at the lighthouse beach- it was fun and worth doing.

Stayed a night in one of the 7th floor riverview apartments with a couple of colleagues. The apartment had an extremely large lounge room with couch and two armchairs, plus a dining table and chairs; we didn't have any need to use the kitchen or laundry facilities in the bathroom but they all looked very good and featureful. Bedrooms weren't so large but perfectly adequate. Bathroom had a bath and a shower as well as a washing machine. The balcony was particularly big, stretching the full length of the lounge and two bedrooms, and the river view was great!

Everything was very clean and modern in style, and very comfortable. My only complaint about the rooms would be that there was an air conditioning outlet in the lounge but NOT in the bedrooms (and it was a hot summer night that we stayed).

We also had a drink in the hotel bar with a client, service was good, range of beers was good, sitting outside on the river side was extremely pleasant. The breakfast buffet in the hotel restaurant was exactly what you would expect from a hotel breakfast buffet, nothing bad to say about it.

I can't comment on price since I wasn't involved in booking it and have no idea what it cost!

All in all definitely a good choice for our business trip!

We stayed there for 2 nights late January, we arrived quite late (about 9pm) after a long drive from Sydney. The hotel is located right in centre of town, with a great pub next door for drinks, eating overlooking the water. The restaurant and bar area of the hotel has also been updated which is now very cool and trendy, a lot of young people hang out here so it has a nice vibe.

The rooms are quite large, clean and tidy. If you book a balcony room try and avoid the first few levels just above the pool as this gets quiet noisy with kids etc. We did request to be away from this area but at the time apparently there was no room so we were forced to be a level above the pool. To the staffs credit however they did try and help us at a later time with a different room, we also found the check-in staff to be friendly and helpful.

The parking situation is terrible we were informed there were no spaces available and were forced to park 3 blocks away from the hotel which was not an ideal situation to be in as we had a car full of camping gear for the next part of our holiday. We were informed we should have got there early in the morning to ensure a spot which defeats the purpose seeing as check-in is not till 3pm! So this needs some work.

All in all though this is a decent hotel in centre of Port Macquarie, and a good pitt stop if you are on your way to further destination up the coast.

This is where you want to stay beleive me, the location is fantastic right in the heart of Port Macquarie, walking distance to everything, restaurants, marina, water activies, beach, shopping centre, cinema's down the road. Rydes is positioned very well. We stayed here for 5 days in a king room with balcony overlooking the hasting river, what a great outlook. the rooms are very spacious and beds very comfortable, staff were great too. the Pool is nice though not as big as it appears in photos. Would would wake up every morning and go for a nice long walk along the promanade along hasting river to the town beach. Some morning we kept on walking along the walking track to Flynns Beach, This is a lovely walk. The Zebu Bar and restaurant located on the ground floor of the hotel is a great place to eat, very good value for money and the outlook from here over hasting river is wonderful, The ambience of the Zebu restaurant is so inviting and relaxing, we had breakfast here most mornings and lunch once too. Over all our stay at the Rydges was just wonderful and we recommend this hotel to anyone who enjoys being right in the heart of everything. We will most definetly stay here again.

Stayed in a two bedroom apartment on the 7th floor -
Family room, full kitchen and separate laundry, bathroom with bath, air conditioning (fans for bedrooms)
Bedroom 1 = kingsize bed, TV, safe, full sized walk in wardrobe and bathroom. Door to balcony.
Bedroom 2 = 2 beds + wardrobe. Door to balcony.

Room was clean and had everything we needed. Beds and pillows were comfy.
View was spectacular, private balcony ran the full length of the rooms and had outdoor setting for six plus a small table with 2 extra chairs and two lounge chairs to relax on. Hotel was based within walking distance of everything we needed including super market, department stores, liquor store, cafes, restaurants, beach and attractions.
The only minor problem was with the buffet breakfast. Whilst the automatic pancake machine was a huge hit with the kids and all the food was lovely if you wanted your eggs poached, boiled or fried you needed to request these from your waiter. By the time we found the waiter, requested our fried eggs and waited the 15mins for them to be delivered the kids had finished eating, were growing restless and wanted to move on. Not a problem really if you dont have children :o) The eggs arrived just as we had given up and was about to leave. This minor thing did not however impact on how we enjoyed our stay but thought it was worth a mention.
