“Extremely over-rated.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 16, 2011

We had heard good things about Amanda's, but were extremely disappointed with our experience. We arrived for lunch without a booking and as such we were treated second-rate. The host was not particularly friendly however we did receive good service from another young waitress. The menu was very limited, and there was no lunch menu. Extremely over-priced for the quality of the food. I ordered the curry and the waitress informed me that it was pre-cooked - not even fresh! The flavours were bland and ordinary. I have had better from my local $10 a meal Indian. Presentation was okay. The atmosphere in the restaurant was very unappealing. Very dated, cramped, noisy and dark. We were seated in the walkway of the restaurant which probably did not help in this regard. Overall, the experience would have been okay if we were paying $10-15 a meal, but not $40+. Very disappointing.

“OK but not great”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 15, 2011

The restaurant had all the signs of being excellent - good menu, BYO, great location, but somehow did not live up to expectations. The service was slow, despite not being full. The food was disappointing.

“Lovely food, atmosphere, service _ recommended!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 12, 2011

We had dinner at Amanda's with our young children and everything was very nice - food, service, atmosphere, everything. Modern Aussie food with, naturally, great wine pairing. Don't miss this place if you're in the area. Very relaxed too - they were nice about our kids being there. Thanks for a very nice evening!

“Weak - Overpriced - McDonalds has better service!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed April 3, 2011

We were recommended Amanda's as a great restaurant that provided an amazing menu and great service. Our experience was very different. The service was terrible. We were seated practically in the hallway entrance and the waitresses kept bumping into our table as they screeched past to serve other people. Before we even got entrees we had paid $20 on corkage and later found out the dinner rolls we were scoffing because the entrees took 40 mins to arrive were actually not free dinner rolls they were $2.50 each!!!! So before even starting we were $30 down. We had to pour our own wine and then unfortunately the very exciting sounding meals we received were weak at best. We would have walked out after entrees but they have a 2 course minimum rule so we hung around for our uninspiring mains. Definately would not return.

“Great way to spend a Sunday Afternoon”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 7, 2011

I visited Amandas last Sunday with a group of friend for a leisurely Sunday Lunch. We had the most wonderful time, lovely atmosphere, friendly staff and beautiful food. I live in the area and had heard good things about this restaurant previously but this was my first visit. It most certainly won't be my last. Everything on the menu looked devine. I had the crab and bug bisque for an entree which was delicious, the garlic prawns also looked wonderful and the stuffed mushroom. For main try the lamb - melts in your mouth. The toffee brulae for dessert if also a must. We had a 1pm booking and didn't actually leave until 5pm (not due to slow service but due to us enjoying coffee, cocktails and some fine local wines after our meal). We felt quite comfortable hanging around the staff were most welcoming, not trying to push us out the door and quite happy for us to continue with our long lunch. Roberts has always been my first choice in the Hunter, but I think I've found some good competition with the menu at Amandas.
