“Nice location with good views and food but missing a little something”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 7, 2013

Had lunch on a Saturday with a table on the verandah looking out to the mountains - just a pity the flies were not trained to stay away!
We both had an entree and main with one entree very tasty but the flavour of the soft shell crab in the other entree overpowered by the accompanying tomatoes. Both mains were very good, duck and lamb, in quantity and flavour.
As driver I had well priced light beer and wine by the glass was also good value.
Service was very good, highly professional yet very friendly.

“Ate twice whilst staying at Spicers”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 1, 2013

We ate here twice whilst staying at spciers. Both meals were very good and the staff were very attentive. All the food was very nice - I had the duck the first night which I actaully found a bit big! Nice but not "fine dining". The second night I prefered the food more. The staff very kindly let us take in a bottle of wine we had bought at a vineyard as we realised we were not going to get through it all before we flew to Melbourne!

Most (if not all) the veg is grown locally and this shows in the freshness of the food.

Overall we really enjoyed this restaurant, although I found the embience slighlty lacking something - hard to say what, but missing a certain wow factor. Also, it is a VERY small point but I hate the felt placemats they look like they were made at school and arent even round!!! (just me, possibly but thought I would mention it!)

“Return to Botanica”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 28, 2013 via mobile

My partner and I returned to restaurant Botanica and mark + the team did not disappoint. The service was terrific and the food was outstanding. Not only did we receive complimentary courses, but we didn't have to wait long for our delicious food... Definitely worth the price! Looking forward to returning.

“Very good and tasty food. Efficient and timely service.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 28, 2013

Restaurant is located along Hermitage Road approximately a 10-12 minute drive from the McDonald's Road/Broke Road intersection.

We phoned on Sunday afternoon to make a reservation for that evening and secured the last table. Views over the vineyard would be very pleasant during the daytime but unfortunately there was very little to see at night even though we had a table by the window.

Restaurant offers 2 or 3 course meals for $63 and $75 ($75 or $85 on Sundays) plus extra for sides.

Restaurant makes it's own artisan sourdough and gluten free bread which was excellent. Amuse bouche was one of the largest scallops I have ever had. Entrees of soft shell crab and mains of caramelised pork belly and slow roasted lamb were also very tasty.

Good wine list with friendly and efficient service even though the restaurant was full.

Will visit again.

“Very pleasant small restaurant with wonderful food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 27, 2013

This restaurant deserves the accolades it receives. Nicely located with views to the mountains and because of it's size it was pleasantly quiet which is not often found in restaurants these days.
Service was impeccable and the meals were amazing. Value for money was exceptional.
I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting the Hunter Valley and it would be worth the drive from Newcastle and surrounding areas.
