“Honeymoon Haven”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 21, 2007

We stayed at PPE on our honeymoon. The staff were very warm and friendly. A gorgeous boutique guesthouse with only 8 rooms. Very large rooms with excellent patio's and amazing views.
As we were on honeymoon we were given the room with the best view and given other treats complimentary. The canapes and wine in the evening was a nice touch and the breakfast in the morning huge and delicious.
We didn't get to try the pool or spa but set up well. A truly beautiful, peaceful resort and close to lots of great restaurants and wineries in the Hunter. Will be back again for sure!

Our stay at the Patrick Plains Estate was superb! It is very cosy and comfortable and the staff are genuinely beautiful and warm.
It is located a little away from the Hunter centre and the quietness and tranquility adds to the character.

Do not miss the canapes - the greates olives I have tasted and fetta that just melts in your mouth!
We also enjoyed the hot breakfast that was generous and very fresh.

Only downfall was that our stay was too short - needless to say we will definately be returning in the near future!

Patrick Plains Estate is a nice place to stay in the Hunter Valley, if you want to stay in a guesthouse- which has a motel feel to it, but overall we were quite disappointed.
Here's what' was good about it:
The owners are friendly, the location is good (as is most of the Hunter Valley), as its next door to some good wineries such as Tintilla and Piggs Peak (but you'll definitely need a car to get there and get around). The ambiance is very quiet and peaceful as its far from the main road, the pool is nice (approx 10 metres long or so, and the outdoor heated spa looks nice), nice view of greenery and vineyard from the rooms, glass of wine and canape provided on arrival (portions are quite small but very tasty) and toiletries in bathroom are Loccitane (good quality brand!).

Here's what's NOT so great about it:
We wanted a romantic getaway in a 5-Star luxurious place and we were prepared to pay for that, but what we got was not what we had envisioned because it certainly doesn't have a 5-Star feel to it - which is what they advertise.
The room is a relatively clean, standard type room with TV, radio, couch, wardrobe, bed,& table and chairs (bathroom with bath tub and shower), and another table and chair outside so you can have breakfast outside if you choose. The bed is quite soft (although some will like this) so both my husband and I woke up quite stiff and sore the following day. The breakfast was tasty and fresh and is delivered to your room, but the portions are quite small and the options are limited. Also, they advertise a cosy log fire, but the fireplace (which is located in the reception area) wasn't lit at all during our stay (even though it became quite cold at night). For the price ($259 p/n over the weekend) it just wasn't special at all, and seemed quite overpriced and I'd gladly pay $130-$150 for this, but no more than that. Overall we were quite disappointed and would prefer to stay in one of the many cabins in the area next time we seek a romantic weekend away.

  • Liked — Friendly owner/manager
  • Disliked — uncomfortable bed, overpriced

We stayed at PPE for 2 nights to explore the hunter valley. We found the accomodation and service top class, it was a real treat to get breakfast and afternoon drinks and canapes delivered to our room inc in the price! Something we havent experienced at other establishments. The staff are extremely friendly and efficient and provide lots of added extras such as monolpoly boards and aeroguard that made our stay so complete! Would def recommend, esp for couples looking for those romantic touches! (spa, wine etc)

I've just returned from my stay at Patrick Plains and I highly recommend it. The service is superb, and the views over the vineyards are spectacular, especially at sun-set enjoying the complimentary canape's and wine from the local area.

You wake up to the sounds of native birds every morning, and the complimentary hot-breakfast is fantastic! (and huge!) This accommodation is worth every cent. It is secluded, with only 8 rooms.

Although we didn't have enough time to try out the pool and spa, it would have been nice if it wasn't raining.

Patrick Plains is close to the local wineries and galleries, there is also a brilliant seafood restaurant about 400metres away (Though i'd suggest you drive as it is up a steep-ish driveway).

This accommodation is great for couples, as it is quiet, romantic and a special place I'd reccommend to everyone who wanted a perfect stay in the Hunter

  • Liked — The service, views breakfast and seclusion.
  • Disliked — closest restaurant 400m away (if you want more than 1 drink with dinner it can be a problem driving but the offer restaurant tranfers at $20pp)

This property is GORGEOUS! We had the joy of staying at this property
in February of this year (2007) and really did not know what to expect prior to arriving. Having travelled many corners of the globe I can honestly say that this Hotel is extra-special. The location, the surrounds, the hosts & service, the accommodation and the 'extra-touches' all added to create a perfect weekend away for us. I cannot highly recommend this hotel enough and we will definitely be going back ourselves....in fact EVERY time we go to the Hunter Valley!
