“No Aircon in heat wave”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed December 18, 2009

Stayed at here for one night with friends. Room was clean and comfortable. Staff were friendly. However the big minus was the aircon was blowing so slowly you could hardly feel the airflow and the air was warm - and it was a hot day 40 degrees. Staff said it takes time to cool down, wait but I'd waited two hours. They took no other action. After going out that evening, leaving the aircon on, on return no improvement. Slept with balcony sliding doors open to get relief. Our friends in the next door room had a similar experience.
The kitchen had been burn out just before our visit but we were warned it would be a limited menu on plactic plates. They did an excellent job with the temporary kitchen.

We were attending a concert in the Hunter Valley and this was the only accomodation still available. Having read the reviews I was a little worried about it however we found the accomodation to be clean, spacious and with the added advantage of a private outdoor area. It is possible that the rooms had recently received a minor face lift with flat screen TV and decent air conditioning. Bed was confortable and we appreciated the little touches like a range of glassware to enjoy the local wines you might bring back to your room to enjoy.
We ate the included buffet breakfast and found it to be of a good standard with plenty of choice. The grounds surounding the motel/pub are beautiful with plenty of outdoor seating to enjoy a drink or meal. We found service in the pub/restuarant was good even though they were running a limited menu due to a fire in the kitchen. We ordered off this menu and had a 1/2 kilo of prawns with seafood sauce and we found them to be fresh as well as being a bit of a different offering. All in all a good experience.

This is apparently a 4 star hotel ...let me tell you it is NOT. From the receptionist greeting to the Hotel managers lack of interest when a complaint is made it is more suitable to a 2 star hotel. We arrived and when we were checked in we were not told any information about breakfast or tour we booked ...basically told our room number and given the key. This hotel is classed as a 4 star...yeah maybe from the 1960"s !! The rooms are dark and in dire need of an upgrade. Poor quality beds and not very comfortable, The room needed to be painted and re freshed. We then ate in the bar . The food is overpriced for what it is and the service is dreadful . We were advised to book into the bistro for dinner . This as it happens is the pub in the evening with the same awful overpriced pub menu and staff that throw the food at you, Add to this a dose of FOOD POISIONING and you are beginning to get the picture, If you smoke you are also in dager of having your drinks swiped by the staff or as we witnessed having their fingers shoved into your drinks trying to take them away ... as we witnessed them do to another couples drinks . When we said to the staff you should replace those drnks you've had your hands in them they shrugged and walked away....charming...
We left the next day after being ill all night and they have had the audacity to charge us for the wine tour even though it was the hotels fault I was ill. Upon making a complaint to the manager CHRIS I was basically told that they had no other complaints and that the $330 dollars would not be being refunded . This is a a very cut down version but basically I was made to feel like I was lying about being ill .
I would not recommend this hotel for a number of reasons. The rooms are old, it is overpriced and the service given is poor and unfriendly. Dont waste your money.

I was taken to Harrigan's by a group of friends to spend my Hens night in the Hunter. There were six woman on a package deal & we had two rooms, wine tour and dinner. According to the party of woman i was with, it was a little over-priced but the occasion warranted it. It took a lot for the establishment to except that we were traveling some distance could only stay one night instead of two (the deal stated one night when at first seeking the package booking) eventually they accepted this. Reception was lovely, and although one room was not ready immediately it was before the tour and there was parking outside the unit. There is picked up / drop off for the tour at reception (thankyou John from Rover Tours - you're a real gem!) and dinner was quite nice, plus we got a table immediately in the restaurant even though it was busy.
The rooms are fairly basic but comfortable. The toiletries were top rate - you can actually use the shampoo/conditioner - and the back courtyard is a big bonus extension to the room. The initial issue we had was that our rooms were on opposite sides of the motel but realized that was because the disabled rooms were the only rooms left available for our 1 night package deal.
The music in the hotel did go quite late (but within reason - it was Saturday night) and could be heard from within the rooms, although this did not bother us as we enjoyed the entertainment provided.
After we had returned to our rooms at the end of the night Motel Security did their job well, politely asking us to quieten down our voices which we found to be more than reasonable and obliged. I would expect as much if I were other guests.
The breakfast in the Harrigans restaurant was also lovely and reasonably priced.
We really enjoyed our stay at Harrigans as it is close to all you need to access in the area, though I must admit personally I don't think I'd spend so much on their standard overnight rate other than for the package for my Hens occasion - though location, location, location.

Stayed here for 1 night mid week and we didn't have any issues that other people have posted about re noise or customer service problems.
The reception girl was friendly enough, the location is in the middle of everything and having the most popular pub in town attached is a bonus when you're tired at the end of the day and want to walk next door for a pub meal and a few beers.
The pub section has loud music but the restaurant area is nice and chilled and they have a good range of pub meals such as beef and Guinness pies, schnitzels, steak etc for around $24 -$26 for most meals.
The rooms were a little daggy but comfortable and large. You can park your car right outside your room. I stayed towards the back and had no noise issues.

A typical motel room with double bed and single, which was fine for a business overnight stay, however the room rate of $180/night per single, was definitely over the top for the room. Bathroom was clean and the decor was acceptable for a standard room, with an excellent breakfast included in the package.

Noise from the pub could be heard in the room, however that did seem to stop about midnight. Ideal accommodation for seminars, group meetings etc, but I wouldn't recommend the motel for a holiday or weekend stay.

The receptionist was friendly and efficient, the location is walking distance to the Hunter Valley Gardens, but if you prefer the 4 + star treatment, there are better places to stay for dollar value.
