5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 20, 2014

True boutique winery, older vines producing lower quantity but higher quality, more concentrated flavours. Beautiful grounds. The winemaker John- filled with pride and passion for his wines, is the most memorable, interesting character in the nicest possible way.
It was our 3rd winery (out of 6) for the day, ended up being the only one we purchased wines from. Great wine, winery and a winemaker- strongly recommended.

“Quality, Knowledge & Experience - A Hidden Gem For True Wine Connoisseurs”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2014

We found ourselves singing Fats Domino as we entered the driveway to the vineyard (the owner, informed us that he hears this quite frequently!).
This is not a big, bold or highly commercial organisation - no foods and other glitzy stuff to dtract from the star of this show - the wines!..... it's quiet and unassuming on a smaller plot and very traditional. John, the owner comes across as quiet and, quite possibly, shy which can be misinterpreted as disinterested....however, after a chat it is quite the opposite and he is extremely knowledgeable and passionate about his craft. The wines are sensational - not your average "big winery" batches, Listen to John as he explains that character of each one...
Our favourite was the Shiraz....a surprisingly different and softer toned version of the usual, robust "in yer face" Aussie staple...this one whispered come and get me and then get me some more (yep, we bought some). Unfortunately the Merlot was already sold out (no surprise judging by the rest of them!) and am sure the rest will be gone soon - so get there quickly and enjoy the product.

“Stop here for great wine!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 20, 2014

If you are looking for a big commercial operation with fancy cellar door, cheese and crackers, don't expect it here. But if you would like to meet the man that grows the grapes and bottles a fantastic wine, you need to stop here. We visited five of the other eye candy cellar doors before buying wine from John. Not to be missed if you are here for good wine.

“Skip this one!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 4, 2013

This was our first winery visit at Hunter valley & for a first impression, we didn't have a great experience. Their famous Merlot was 'out of stock' so all there was, was a blend i.e. Cabernet Merlot which we ended up buying but it's the dull presentation, 0 greeting and dis-interested appearance that the manager/owner (Not sure if he was the owner or mgr) had that put us off! We went there because this was rated as one of the top 10 as per cnn travellor (2011). Even though this was a 2 yrs old review, we took our chances and thankfully the other two wineries we visited in that list were great- both in service, their delicious wines and ambience i.e. Brokenwood and David Hook (my favourite & incidentally no 1 as per that CNN review).

Though there is no fee for wine tasting, the person will hesitantly offer for tasting unless you show interest/inclination in buying.

Strong advice to avoid this winery.

“Quality wine”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 4, 2013

My partner and I absolutely love this vineyard. John is always informative and you can tell he just loves his job, and I have never tasted one of their wines that i didn't like.

We will be joining their wine club!
