“Hunter Valley Resort”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 24, 2013

This is a very good place to stay whilst in the Hunter Valley. The rooms were like log cabins and were clean and comfortable. It was very hot during our stay and the air conditioning was very effective. the staff were very helpful and when we arrived well ahead of checkin time they switched us to another room that was ready. The resort is part of a winery and the stay included a guided tour and wine tasting event. The guide was great and we tried many wines. There is also lovely beer - Blue Tongue Lizard. The ginger beer was very refreshing. The resort is well located for exploration. Food was good for breakfast and dinner but it is worth a short trip to Emersons for a gourmet dinner.

we stayed in a Hunter room so it was quite near the center of the site. room was fully equipped but we did share with some local wildlife....
Walls were quite thin and we had to wait for the lads next door to finish watching the TV before we could get to sleep.
the wine tasting was interesting and informative.
The resort is quite a long way from anywhere else and we were early in the season so eating places were a but limited. food was quite expensive in the restaurant.

Room Tip: check for wildlife

We stayed here for one night whilst in the Hunter Valley - great location and good amenities. The room was big but fairly rustic but we both slept well.

The restuarant for breakfast was disappointing with limited choice that was not enticing at all. The best food was lunch and the drinks choices were excellent. The pool looked good and there is a BBQ area.

By far the best thing here was the Wine Guide and Tasting and the receptionist was excellent too.

Worth a stay if you are looking for a reasonable room whilst visiting the Hunter Valley.

I think "Resort' was a little exaggerated and heightened our expectations. Reception Staff- could not be faulted. Bed was two singles joined together with a definite divided feeling. Room amenities were great, tea and coffee etc. Air Conditioning was also efficient. The room was described as vineyard views which again, led us to expect a vineyard, not one row of vines. Excellent Restaurant-"San Martino', very attentitive staff, superb Wine List. We also participated in the Wine Theatre and Wine Appreciation offered, Daniel and Nathan, were a credit to this establishment. Part of our package was a transfer to and from Singleton Station, Daniel who picked us up, was a very welcoming introduction to our mini weekend break. Not the same experience can be said for our return transfer by a very grumpy older man who didn't speak.

This place is clean and friendly with a bar and restaurant on site. Slightly out of Polkobin, but near some lovely restaurants and with a daily pick-up for a great full-day wine tour ($60). Don't expect grandeur and frills and you'll be fine! Only issue my husband and I had was the shower, which was hopeless!!

We were very disappointed. The photos look nice, but its a motel not a resort - we thought expensive for what you got.

Would be nice if they were more honest in the style & quality of the accommodation.

The hunter valley was fantastic - will return for longer trip, including wine tasting tour!!

Thanks for your constructive feedback - the first words of our website say the same thing:

"Hunter Valley Resort is not one of those 'big' resorts, it is a country inn or lodge with 35 rooms and cottages, nestled within its own 40 year old shiraz vineyards on 70 secluded acres in the very heart of the famous Hunter Valley Wine Country".

What makes us more of a 'resort' than a 'motel' is all our activities like horseriding, massage centre, vineyard tour/winetasting, Bluetongue Brewery, Wine Theatre, Cooking Schools, Binnorie Cheese tasting, Candymaking Class, Pool, Tennis, Mountain bikes etc.

This was my first visit to Hunter Valley with my husband. Before the journey, we sought some advice from our friends for various sightseeing places and accommodation. He recommended us to stay in the Hunter Valley Resort; and it turned out to be a memorable one! The staff there is extremely friendly and helpful. After check-in, the lady briefly introduced the resort facilities and some interesting class like wine tasting, and showed us the Hunter Valley map which facilitated our visits on the following day. In addition, the resort has a small brewery – Bluetongue; and there was a set of 6 tasting beers you could try! Back to the room, we chose to stay in the spa cottage room. The room was clean, well-maintained, and -equipped (... with complimentary Nespresso coffee too); and most importantly, the bed was comfy.

In fact, the most enjoyable moment to me during the visit was sitting under the starry night with my husband... :)
