Owner description: The Wilkinson's were true pioneers of the Australian winemaking industry. Despite two earlier ventures in Australia, the Wilkinson family returned after the brothers Frederick and John had studied winemaking in France and Germany. In 1866 the family acquired the present site of the Audrey Wilkinson vineyard. Living in tents, they cleared the land and planted vines which were sourced from the MacArthur Onslow property. By the early 1900s, Audrey Wilkinson collected awards around Australia for his Hock, claret and fortified wines. Large quantities were exported to London. Audrey committed to leading edge technology which, at the end of the 19th century, included open cement fermenters and steam powered crushers and hoppers. It was here the Audrey Wilkinson legacy was born.

“fantastic”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 17, 2012

This vineyard has had a truly wonderful renaissance in recent years (the reviews from the likes of James Halliday reflect that).

Aside from the quality of the produce, and as others have noted, the vineyard itself its situated in the most magestical spot in the Hunter region with commanding views for miles in every direction.

This is a must visit for my wife and I whenever we are in the area.

“Beautiful views, disappointing wines”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 17, 2012

Beautiful views from the gorgeous tasting venue on the top of the hill but the wines are rather disappointing and mediocre.

“Nice view but service leaves a bad taste”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 17, 2012 via mobile

Was a nice venue but the staff seemed indigent. Wines were ok. Didn't purchase anything. Probably wont visit this winery on my next trip up

“Good wine but outstanding views”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2012

We always include this winery on our list when we are taking visitors around the area. Primarily for its location. The views on a clear day are amazing and after you've enjoyed that, the wines are pretty good too for a quick tasting.

“Fab tasting and Incredible Views”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 9, 2012

We visited Audrey Wilkinson for a tasting and a picnic lunch whilst on an organized tour. We could have stayed all afternoon. The winery is on top of one of the highest points in the Hunter Valley, so the views are 360 degrees and range for miles.
The tasting and the sommelier were one of the best of the day-our guide was both knowledgable and entertaining, and had us all in stitches even before we started drinking...We enjoyed the Shiraz particularly.
I suggest you bring a picnic and have a nice lunch on the lawn after your tasting if you are self- touring. The Smelly Cheese shop or the Binnarie Dairy are nearby.
