“YUM YUM”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 31, 2014

We had a family dinner and the steak just melted in your mouth.. my picky little 4yo didn't have one complaint as they gave her some colouring in to do, then the food came and she ate the lot. Will definitely come back.

“Service ok.... beautiful food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2014

I was skeptical to eat here based on previous reviews, however as we were staying at the mercure we decided to dine in. The service was slow initally, about 25 mins before we ordered and another 20mins to get drinks and breads, but our mains came out not long after and were delicious. My hubby's meat fell off his beef ribs and my fillet mignon was moist and tender and cooked beautifully for med-well. Even my 2 year olds kids spaghetti was tasty. Overall we had a nice feed.

We turned up on a Friday night as a table of 7 walk ins, we were tabled up and served within minutes and had a great time, Steak was fantastic and I had never seen my children eat their dinner as quickly as they did here, thanks to an amazing Spag Bol. Thanks Guys, would definitely recommend.

“We talked about the HV Steak House for days after we dined there”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed December 26, 2013

And it was because of a very memorable dining experience for the wrong reasons.

The previous reviews on service and quality of food was spot on.

We were not aware that the HV Steak House was a restaurant part of the Mercure Hotel. In fact it was also a breakfast room. None of the advertising in any brochures indicated that it was a hotel restaurant. We thought it was a stand alone restaurant.

After several courtesy approaches by the wait staff on “how is everything”, we pointed out that it was lovely except that there was no food. One of the excuses given was that the docket machine had broken down and no orders were being sent to the kitchen. This would have been believable except that 3 large tables after us received their food faster than us. 1 hr 20 mins later, the starter and salad arrived. Another 20 mins later, the steak came. For a $40 steak, it was utter disappointment. The dessert had elements missing and the excuse was that it was only decorative and did not affect it.

Overall the food was below average for a restaurant claiming to be a Steak House. We were given a 10% discount for the inconvenience but I would not have paid more than $50 for the entire meal. It was like pub standard.

Take the advice of the reviewers and do not go there.

“Long wait, cold steak”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed December 1, 2013 via mobile

We ordered mains. Over 45 minutes later our steaks arrived...warm.
Perhaps the frozen butter on top of the steak may have melted if our steaks were hot. The chips, again would have been great if they were hot!
When asked how our meal was, I said 'it took a long time, it was only warm & the butter on our steaks was frozen.' The response I got was, 'oh that's a shame. The total is ....'
