After a long drive, the latter stages through a wild storm, we arrived at the Mercure Hunter Valley and decided to stay in and eat at the hotel's restaurant, the Hunter Valley Steak House. The menu pompously spoke of the types and gratings of steak served and impressed, my wife and I ordered one each. We both found the steaks very bland and in my wife"s case, gristly and I should say over-priced.
While the restaurant was not overly busy, the one very efficient waitress was obviously over-worked and had to also service the adjacent bar. At one stage it became so busy that the hotel receptionist was called on to wait tables. Apparently, Mercure management is intent on cost saving at the expense of their guests. Time to either scrap the hype from the menu or lift your game Mercure! If you are going to call a restaurant a steak house, then you need to deliver what your menu promises.
