“Scrumptious meal and great atmosphere”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 21, 2012

We enjoyed a romantic Sunday dinner at Shakey tables. Our three course meal was delicious and well presented. To accompany our meal we ordered a bottle of the Shakey Tables Shiraz and we were pleasantly surprised its well-rounded flavour - very enjoyable!
Shakey Tables is great value for money compared to many of the other restaurants in the Hunter Valley.
Dont wash your car before you go - the driveway to the restaurant is a long dirt road and its dusty!

“Go find this place, its worth it..”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 17, 2012

Again we found this place on a recommendation from a local who we do business with. Although its a bit out of the way of the main Broke Rd restaurants it is worth the drive.

The menu is eclectic and at fist glance you have to wonder how some of the recipes work. But they do work. The four of us all chose something different and then tasted across the table. The mixes of flavours and aromas was brilliant.

Not an inexpensive place but not as pricey as many others in the Hunter and do not be afraid to look at the menu and take a punt on anything..it may look funny on paper but your taste buds will love you for it!

“Ok”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 1, 2012

I was recommended this place by many friends but were disappointed.
The decor is funky with interesting paintings.
We placed our orders at 7:30 but didn't get our orders until 9pm. At around 8pm, we were given complimentary soup. Rather than staff notify us of delays, we were left wondering where our food was.
At the end of the evening, my friend was told by the waitstaff that the chef had an accident. It would have been polite to know that there was a hold up during the evening rather than staff ignore us.
The smashed potatos were very yummy but you need to mix it up as the crushed nuts fall to the bottom. The desserts looked very good but was too annoyed to order any since the mains arrived so late.
If customer service was better, I would consider going again as the place has a lot of potential.

“A little dated, food needs a little love”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2012

Had an average meal here on a Saturday night. Restaurant was busy and vibe was good. The decor and atmosphere is dated and I felt like I was sitting in a restaurant circa 2002: bright, mismatched chairs, literal gimmicky art and St Germain's Tourist playing in the background. The food is good but not great for the price. Athough the flavours were good, my rabbit starter and the components of the pork main were both dry. More sauce needed? The deserts are overly sweet. The wait staff were very attentive but the batman couldn't get our drinks right. In all not a bad meal, but not outstanding either.

“Outstanding food, service and atmosphere.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 28, 2012 via mobile

We were recommended this place by our hotel and while a little apprehensive with what we were told was on the menu, we thought we'd give it a go. We were very happy indeed. Pricing as expected, but the pleasant surprise was the well stocked and very reasonably priced wine list. I had trouble working out what to get, but the manager was very keen to help and did a great job getting the right wine. A tip on transport, talk to your hotel. There are shuttle bus services in the area for $15-20 per person return. Much cheaper than taxis each way. Let's you spend more on food a wine, which is why we're here anyway!
