“Very disappointing, grotty, money hungry establishment”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2013

My family booked a stay at one of the cabins for a week. The place while of adequate size was sparsely furnished with an absolute minimum of any nice touches. The entire place was grotty and tired. The outside of the cabin had not been brushed down since the day it was built. You could not appreciate a view from the windows because they were so filthy. All the crockery and cutlery was grimey and we noticed there was not even a cleaning cloth provided. The water had an odour, and the septic tank in front of the building permeated the area. We abandoned our stay and found far superior accommodation for a better price. You would have expected that for a week's booking at such a huge winery/orchard they may have provided a bottle of wine, jam or fruit, but juice and milk was all.

We attended a wedding at Borrodell Vineyard and were lucky enough to stay in Kingston Suite for two nights. There are two suites with glorious views over the valley to Orange but they are well screened from each other by plantings and one being set back from the other. Kangaroos grazed in the paddock outside our windows.
Most of the walls in the living area are glass with one section having a window seat scattered with cushions, there is also a comfortable lounge. A large fire place comes into its own in the evenings, wood is supplied along with fire starters! There is a small kitchen area with fridge, microwave, frypan, crockery and cutlery so self-catering is possible. The bedroom area is up a couple of steps with a queen size bed made up with quality linens and views through the sitting room to Orange. The bathroom has a spa bath that comfortably fits two and comes with candles to add to the romance.
I was impressed with the lovely vase of red roses in the room and also the bowl of chocolates. Breakfast of orange juice, milk, croissants and home-made jam was left for us one day, but not the next. Tea/coffee and cereal was in the cupboard when we arrived. We weren't told that breakfast on Sunday morning was served in the restaurant and we therefore left hungry! We thought that they had forgotten to give us anything in the room because they were busy with the wedding.
Wine tasting with Gaye was informative and we ate dinner in the restaurant. The meal was nicely presented, but we felt it was over-priced and not very tasty.
I would recommend Borrodell as a lovely venue for a wedding and also for a couple of nights' stay but I would bring my own antipasta and buy a bottle of their very good wine to drink with it.

Room Tip: Kingston or Somerset suites for a romantic getaway with fantastic views - and there are now roller b...

My husband and I were recently in the region visiting family and were given a rare night away from the kids, made all the more special by our stay at Borrodell's Cider Suites. We managed to book a Thursday night at relatively short notice without a hassle and this meant we could enjoy lunch in the restaurant on the Friday before heading off.

A definite highlight was sitting on the balcony in the early evening enjoying the view after picking up a bottle of sparkling from Borry at cellar door, who was happy to chat to us about the many goings on at Borrodell (heritage apples, cider, the lovely wine and even truffles in winter!) It was magic to move just indoors to the window seat as it got chilly but not interrupt our gazing at the view! We were glad we decided to stock up on cheese & antipasti for a light dinner rather than taking a cab back to town which meant we could just relax and enjoy our escape.

Lunch on the terrace of Sisters Rock restaurant the next day was just a perfect way to complete our stay. Local produce featured on the menu, even apples from Borrodell orchard were on the dessert menu, and the vines our wine had been made from were within a stone's throw of our table - all very charming.

Would highly recommend escaping from the world at Borrodell. We didn't want to leave!

We stayed in the Cider Suites, which were just perfect. They're situated at the top of the vineyard, overlooking the valley and the town of Orange.
The suite has a bedroom overlooking the lounge and kitchen, and a separate bathroom with spa bath. Each area has a view - there are massive windows that take in the serenity of the valley. There's also a fireplace which not only kept us warm but allowed us to roast marshmallows!
The floors in the kitchenette and bedroom are heated, which is very welcome in the middle of the night when it's cold.
The kitchenette comes with good facilities, there's an electric frypan, basic cutlery and plates, which came in handy to enjoy a cooked dinner in front of the fire. There's also cereal, coffee, tea and sugar.
The owners - Borry and Gayle Gartrell - are fantastic. On our first night Gayle presented us with a current loaf, butter, orange and bourbon marmalade, fresh milk and orange juice for our breakfast. We shared great stories while tasting their wine!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The Cider Suites are a great getaway for a couple; you could spend lazy days in the suite or the vineyard, or explore Orange and the surrounds. We will certainly be back again, probably bringing family and staying in the cottages!

We recently spent a weekend staying at Borrodell Winery. The luxury cottages are contemporary in their architecture and design but respectful to the picturesque country location. Careful consideration to the interiors was given with large picture windows looking over the valley and lights of Orange at night. Dinner at the restaurant was pleasant although limited options for non meat eaters, the breakfasts provided in the cottages were a little light on however the Sunday breakfast in the restaurant was great.
The owners and staff are very friendly and always up for a chat especially over a wine tasting.
The location of the winery is perfect for a weekend. I liked being away from Orange but close to other local wineries and an amazing hatted restaurant called Racine.
I would recommend staying at Borrodell especially for a couple wanting a romantic time away in a refreshingly contemporary cottage. Fi

Our group of 4 adults and 3 children stayed in Truffles cottage for three nights. There were three bedrooms. One queen with an ensuite, one small with two singles and another queen where we put the extra bed. Truffles cottage has a lovely flat grassy area where many games of cricket were played. The wattle trees were in full bloom and many birds could be found in there. The fire was used every day as it was very cold.
We tasted Borrodell wines and dined at the restaurant one night. It is about a 10 minute drive into Orange.
Our stay was enjoyable but could have been better. There were only 4 bowls and 4 glasses for a group of 7 and not enough toilet paper. Once we asked, we were given extras . The extra bed provided was a plastic covered cushion and was Ok for a 7 yr old but $50 a night seemed a bit steep. The curtains in the bedrooms are all too small and there are none in the lounge area which would help keep the cold out. The owners were very friendly but the restaurant , winery and weddings mean a lot of the small details here are overlooked. There was milk, juice and a loaf of fresh bread when we arrived but they forgot to bring more so we bought extra.

If you want to see the best that wine country can offer, try to spend some time on Borrodell Vineyard. I had an amazing time there last February. Landscaping is gorgeous, the views are breathtaking and on top of that the wine is excellent!
I loved the luxury cottages which have been carefully designed, and all the nice touches the owners have put into it. They are always available to make sure your stay is perfect. It felt like home away from home. Food you can taste in the restaurant is delicious.
I really enjoyed my stay, it is a lovely place with a nice atmosphere to relax. I will definatly recommend it to my family and friends.
