“Wonderful!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 1, 2013

This is a wonderful new venue in Newcastle providing an alternative to the pub/club culture that is the norm.
A lovely refined atmosphere, great service, reasonably priced menu. Open from 11am onwards.
I wish the owners well, and hope they thrive and contribute to the changing face of Newcastle.

“Takes you to another time”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 17, 2013

What a lovely place. As soon as you walk through the doors you feel as though you have gone back in time. The ambience is that of luxury. You can imagine yourself without a care in the world, nothing to do but enjoy the company of friends, with a good glass of French wine. Add a tasty platter to share and follow up with a delicious dessert.
Recommended for a quite drink, lunch or a casual supper.
The French staff are friendly & the service top notch.

“Hallelujah - a gorgeous place to have some fine wine”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 27, 2013 via mobile

A beautiful bar - just what Newcastle needs. A great place to sit and have some tasty French treats and pass the afternoon away. Great service and a brilliant renovation.

“Perfect place to pass the time”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 19, 2013

Le Passe Temps (which apparently means both 'times past' and 'passing the time') styles itself as a French lounge and certainly provides plenty of opportunities for lounging, whether in vintage armchairs or at the perfectly preserved counters of this historic bank building. It offers a range of drinks, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic, at very reasonable prices and a small menu of classic French dishes to accompany them. All served by a crew of very French staff. We sat upstairs on a mezzanine level and really enjoyed our selection of French wines, a shared charcuterie platter and a couple of small desserts (dark chocolate mousse and creme brulee). The latter are especially good value - small enough that you don't feel guilty and a fraction of the price you would pay in a restaurant.
