“Bleak conditions”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 9, 2013

Well presented window into the harsh conditions prisoners in the lock up suffered. Greeted warmly by a volunteer who gave background of building and the way the centre operated.

“Hauntingly beautiful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 6, 2013

I presented an installation exhibition in one of the prison cells here. It was a hauntingly beautiful experience. The place is steeped in rich and layered history. They hold many art events and exhibitions. I would love to return someday for work and even just another visit. A must-see if you are in Newcastle!

“Great Experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 19, 2013

I took my 3 grandchildren under 11yrs for a visit. The children were delighted & looked in every nook . They read all the information & even participated in the written questionnaire. The children still talk of their visit & have even asked their teachers if it can be included in their Newcastle excursion. The lock-up is a great experience. The area is small so only small gatherings at a time. I would recommend to all school children & those interested in Newcastle Heritage. There is also an Art Gallery in the area.

“Nice to see History Preserved”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 3, 2013

This is a welcome change to find an historical building in Newcastle preserved and on display. The exhibitions were informative. Great to look through the old cells and exercise yard. The volunteer staff were exceptionally friendly and most informative. Thanks.
