“Fawlty Towers”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 27, 2013 via mobile

Our first and last visit to this restaurant was like something out of Fawlty Towers. We were a party of 5. The Foie Gras was served with plain white bread lightly toasted. There were a couple of meals on the menu unavailable. I ordered trout, a while later she came and said no Trout left, so I ordered Beef, a while later again no Beef left, but they did have some Chicken left. When the meals finally arrived the birthday person got Beef not Duck. The steamed veggies never arrived. When a second bottle of wine was ordered, yet again none left. Choose again. And then I was corrected on my pronunciation of a dessert. And for all this we paid a small fortune.

“Good Value Lunch”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 10, 2013

We enjoyed the good value lunch here recently. $20 for a substantial main course and a glass of wine. There were quite a number of choices on the lunchtime menu and we all had something different. Everyone enjoyed their meal. Dominique was a gracious and attentive host. We did cast an eye over the evening menu while we were there and would have to agree with previous comments that the prices are rather high. There are many good restaurants in Newcastle and to be competitive prices must attract the customers as well as good food. We would certainly recommend a lunchtime visit to this nice little restaurant.

“Enjoyable dinner but....”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 20, 2013

We ate a 3 course dinner at the restaurant. The servings were generous and tasty with good table service, however, the ambience was not the same as a French bistro. For example, for a true French experience it would be good if the waitresses offered you the choice of speaking to you in French or English (useful for those wanting to improve their French) but I don't think they were French speaking. The host did circulate around the tables making sure all was well. That was a nice touch. Overall, it was a good night out but the food, while it was ok, was over-priced. Hence the reason for the average rating.

“Go for dessert”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 23, 2013 via mobile

Lovely atmosphere, but really overpriced! We visited on a Saturday evening and for 2 courses each we paid nearly $100 each for food that was good enough but not spectacular. Steaks ordered medium and medium rare were cooked the same, and lamb was overlooked. Escargot was good, and the cheese platter was nice. There were very few wait staff, so expect long waits between courses! The desserts were all excellent, and took this review from 2 stars to 3 stars. But don't go here looking for value for money.
