“Very Ordinary Stay”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 7, 2012 via mobile

I stayed here recently as where I ussually stay (Quest) was fully booked, I expected Crowne Plaza to be a quality alternative hotel. I was treated as a number with no genuine customer service. Location is ok if you want everyone walking past your window, it is really noisy and anyone can walk in to the hotel, security is lacking. The room was old and in need of renovation, needs a good clean. Overall this hotel is underwhelming and needs some attention. I won't stay here again,

We recently spent two nights at this hotel in Newcastle - we agonised over where we should stay - beachside or harbourside but I'm sure we made the right decision in the end. We paid a little extra for a harbourview room which was well worth it - it was fascinating watching the tugs and big container ships come and go and a waterview is always relaxing. The rooms were very comfortable - bedroom with separate lounge/bar area which is always worthwhile when staying more than one night. There were a stack of restaurants & bars within short walk from hotel. We stayed here for our anniversary and were treated to a complimentary bottle of sparkiling wine.
Parking is a bit of a problem - street parking requires a ticket between 9 & 5 or valet parking at cost of $28

Room Tip: Harbourview - always something happening on the River!

We stayed at Crowne Plaza Newcastle while I was on business and also f=had my family with me. To begin with, the choice of 4 to 5 star hotels in Newcastle is somewhat limited. However, that shouldn't take away the merits of Crowne Plaza Newcastle. It is arguably the best luxury hotel in Newcastle. We had a pleasant stay overall. On arrival by taxi, we were greeted by a staff from the reception since the concierge's desk was unattended at the time. She insisted on getting our luggage and settled for a cabin bag when I declined to let her have a go at our 25 kg luggage!

We had a very quick check in and got a pleasant room with a king bed facing the harbour. Lovely view, although facing the harbour does have its downside - you may be woken up by a cargo ship's loud horn at what you may consider an unholy hour (but in actual fact it probably is a reasonable time mid-morning). Our little girl loved the harbour experience though - all the tug boats at work kept her mesmerised. The room was clean and pleasant, albeit getting on in age with the carpets, curtains and furniture showing early signs of wear and tear. The cleaning crew were very pleasant and obliging and a pleasure to talk to when passing them in the corridors. The room service was also very efficient, prompt and exceptionally friendly. There is an interesting read on the history of the hotel and the city in the rooms, authored by the hotel's current owner.

The location of this hotel is incredibly convenient and walking distance to many attractions and shopping. Newcastle is a lovely city, small but very family friendly. Walks along the harbour are very pleasant. Lots of dining options are available downtown.

Overall, a great place to visit and nice hotel to stay at. Will no doubt be staying here again………will not mind at all if we do.

Provided very good service - friendly. The Room was what I expected, size wise and was clean. The bed could be separated from the living area where we had our small children sleeping. Food from room service was nice. Only criticism was the small kitchenette was deficient of pretty much everything really, only had kettle, sink, cups and some tea and coffee. No bowls, plates or cutlery so pretty much were restricted to room service.

Stayed here for one night in November 2012. Had a harbourside suite, with kitchen, lounge area, separate bedroom and nice bathroom. Well appointed room, good quality funishings and very comfortable bed. Exceptional view across Newcastle Harbour. Staff were friendly and courteous. We dined in the restaurant for a very good buffet breakfast with everything you could want to eat, and coffee to order. Many restaurants nearby and a great walk along Newcastle's harbour. Hotel has a pool and an arrangement with an excellent full sized gym next door. Highly recommended.

great service from the time we checked in. nothing was too much of a drama and with a wedding party getting ready in our room everything was a drama! room service etc were quick, check-out was easy and valet had car out the front ready for us by the time we got to the checkout desk. had a problem with the iron and it was replaced with a new one in 5 minutes. breakfast buffet was plentiful and had lots of variety and if you dont want to eat in the crowne's sea salt restaurant there are many eating venues within 10 minutes walk. 25 metre pool area was secluded from passing wharf pedestrians and harbour. grounds were great as wedding venue with a backup area in case of dodgy weather. great bed/mattress but hated the "squishy" pillows.

Room Tip: we had room 411 which was on the corner with a balcony taking in all the harbour views. working harb...

A last minute night away was booked through wotif. We went for harbour view and were delighted to get a top floor room which had 2 small juliet type balconies. (I presume you will receive the best room available in the category you have chosen). The rooms are spacious and with the sun streaming in I would happily have stayed put for the afternoon just soaking up the amazing harbour views. This is a working harbour so your view is constantly changing and there is a public boardwalk in front of the hotel so you can people watch too. Thoroughly enjoyed the stay but what really made it for us was the access to The Forum, the excellent gym across the road. I was really pleased to be able to a class on a Sunday morning. Would happily return.

Room Tip: I don't think I would stay here unless I booked a harbourview room.
