“perfect for stopping through.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 3, 2013

firstly the front office staff are delightful! truly a credit to the hotel. We were checked in without a fuss and as there were 3 of us we got 2 rooms right next to each other.

being previously a local, i knew the closest location for shopping dining etc, my partner and a friend were newer and the front desk lady (i feel bad i didnt get here name) took the time to show them where they were and when the bar they had heard about was in proximity!

Rooms are standard, though comfortable. slept, showered and thats about all we did in those rooms and it did the job perfectly.

The only downside was breakfast. $50 for 3 buffets, which had a limited choice and was fairly cold.

charges apply for parking, but its inner newcastle, just pay it, better than it dissappearing during the night. Secure.

Firstly, Ibis is not promoted as a 5 star hotel so it would be unfair to compare this to hotels of this level. As a three star hotel, the Ibis is quite a good place to stay. The location is central to Newcastle, the bed was comfy and the pillows provided a good night's sleep. Staff were friendly and the room was certainly clean. (And they provided soap - not this juice in a bottle rubbish). Where I found it lacking was wi-fi was not free in the rooms (although you could get it at 10 minute intervals free at the reception area), the breakfast selection was reasonable ($15 if ordered when checking in, $18 otherwise - strange idea) and the meal at night was cafe style rather than restaurant style, but it was enjoyable. The restaurant itself is more of a cafe nature but all Ibis hotels have this type of setting. The Ibis bathrooms are "something else" - a miniature cubicle dropped into the front corner of the room - certainly a basic, but servicable approach. Being an overnight work stay, I could not really complain as all the needs were serviced well but I would find it draining if I was to use this as a holiday over several days.

If you like airports and being anonymous then this might be the hotel for you.
It was clean but unremarkable otherwise. There is a $15 extra charge for parking, extra to use wi fi, extra for breakfast. The bathroom cubicle reminded me of an upturned coffin. If you opened the window there was a strong smell of cooking oil from the two fast food outlets next door.

Wouldn't stay here again when there are so many others in the same price range to choose form.

Hi I booked that day and the hotel staff were extremely helpful. The room was clean with a terrific queen size bed with extra soft pillows. Buffet breakfast was served until 10am which was good value and a wide selection to choose from. Check out was 11am which allowed for a more relaxing departure than having to rush after eating breakfast.
Would recommend the Ibis to other travellers coming to Newcastle fora short break or overnight
