“Awesome spot for little ones”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2014

I have lived in Newcastle for six months and I'm so glad I discovered the soft play area at the museum. It's brilliant and it's free! The exhibits are also fantastic, the steel making show in the bhp exhibit is very well done, and supernova for the bigger kids is great. Sprout cafe in the museum is a lovely spot, their gnocchi is amazing!!

“Great for the Kids and free”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 16, 2014

It has been raining most mornings this week while we have been on holidays so we wander over to Sprout cafe which is connected to the museum and then stay at the museum until the rain stops. A great indoor playground for the three kids and lots for them to look at and touch. An interesting history of Newcastle displayed for me to look at as well. The staff are enthusiastic and helpful. the best thing is it's FREE with Wi-Fi included.

“Must see in Newcastle”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 1, 2014

This is a very interesting place to see. I didn't expect much but was very impressed to see the activities it got for kids. The BHP section which display history iron industry also had some items interest kids.
Supernova Hands-on Science Center is full of activities for kids. Most activates are to explain various science theories behind magnetic fields, levers, geometry etc. Good for bit older kids. The car lifting lever activity is fun for all.
They run a steel making show every hour, but somehow we missed it.
We also had a look at the Colosseum lego structure display but it wasn't that amazing. It was much smaller than I expected. ---This event is closed now.
Museum is free access. Nearest public parking is few meters away, meter parking $2.50/hour hours and suggest getting 3 hours if you are going with kids. There is a cafe in the museum but we didn't go.
This is a must visit in Newcastle and good to spend 3 hours. Can be accessed easily by train, it is just outside the Civic train station.

“Excellent local museum”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 1, 2014

A really exceptional museum. Fascinating displays on a whole range of social history-suburbs, sport, the arts, pubs, transport etc. Excellent interactive activities and science related hands-on for kids. Very friendly and helpful staff and well curated exhibitions. Even a room for the little littleys. Great multimedia display on BHP and steel working. A must see in Newcastle !
