“Very Happy”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 7, 2014

My wife and I stayed Sat 4th Jan/14.

The staff at reception were great.

The room was spotless & furnishings looked fresh.

I was surprised to find out the Hotel is 3 years old, as my first impression was, it must be new.

11am check-out was perfect.

Location excellent.

We stayed at this hotel over the christmas break with our toddler. This was our second time at the hotel. Having previously stayed in a hotel room with no balcony we opted for a room with a balcony for our christmas break which had a nice enough view out to the ocean (ignoring the construction site next door). The room was clean and we had enough room to have our own portacot setup for the duration if out stay. A few annoying little things like not having enough towels left in our room every time it was serviced, aircon only worked intermittently or our spare room key which we left in the socket being taken by housekeeping and our other room key being deactivated on only the second day or our 6 night stay (all of which was quickly rectified by the staff on reception). The staff in General were fantastic and very helpful ( excluding one of the housekeeping staff who I asked for an extra towel for our room and told me she was busy I would have to ask someone else). Parking is pricey but we were happy to pay $15/ night for secure undercover parking, one night the hotel was full so we parked on the street and then moved it back into the car park the next morning. The hotel is in a great location to access the beach and some great little places to eat close by. This is our choice of hotel when visiting family in Newcastle.

Dear SEF_83,
Thank you for the review of our hotel, it is wonderful to hear that you are taking your Christmas break with us in Newcastle.
We appreciate your positive feedback on the staff I will let our Housekeeper know about the inappropriate comment made by one of our attendants, we apologise for her poor attitude. We also apologise for the shortage of towels, we have had challenges with supply over the public holidays. Unfortunately the car park can fill up at this peak time of year, we do our best to accommodate all cars at this very busy time.
We thank you again for your review and look forward to your return when next in Newcastle.
Kind Regards
Simon Glover

This was our second stay. The location is great. Walk to the beach and restaurants. The service was also good. The rooms are modern and the bed was super comfy. Unfortunalty a torn cushion and bed spread and stained lounge chair spoilt the overall feel.

This was my first time staying at the Novotel Newcastle Beach. It was also my first time to Newcastle, and now that I've gone, I've gotten a better understanding of how the city is laid out.
This hotel is in a great spot for beach access - it's comfortably nestled behind the main street for the beach - Shortland esplanade.

The hotel itself?
We had a "Superior Room" which had a King bed - which was lovely. The room was a bit small for my liking, however we made do with what we had.
We had no mentionable view - only of the building next door. This room also came with no Balcony which was a disappointment for me, it seems that for beachside accommodation, that this is a must. The back of the room near the window felt a bit empty, there was about 2m of un-used space that could have had a sofa or a drying rack for beach towels to better occupy the space.

The 24-hour check in desk was a great feature, ensuring we always had someone to assist us whenever we required.

The biggest punch? $18 a day for parking the car under the hotel. This made us do a daily routine of finding the unlimited free-parking zones around the city in which to leave the car. It's clear that Newcastle has recently decided to make most bays either 2 or 4-hour metered parks, at the cost of $4 an hour.

However, if you like your facilities, there's a rather well-equipped "relaxation centre" comprised of a spa and a gym.

Would I stay there again? Yeah sure, but I'd find a different room.

Room Tip: Book in advance to have the better room options

We stayed here overnight, we had a balcony with a view, a great place to sit and enjoy a coffee and watch the surfing in the mornings. There are a number of restaurants and cafés in the area, all easy to walk to. The hotel also has a restaurant. The room was a good size for an overnight stay and the bathroom was clean with toiletries provided. The bed was king size and comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful. I would stay here again.
