“Out of the way and uncomfortable”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 2, 2012

I have stayed here on a number of occasions when in the area for work. The motel is situated in an industrial area and location wise it is not appealing or accommodating. While the rooms are pleasant I have had great difficulty sleeping in this motel each time I have stayed. It is attached next to a licensed club and the ambience is not inviting. The poker machines and the alcohol culture make it feel fairly down market. The restaurant has no table service so you are lined up like a club patron.. If you want to eact elsewhere it is a drive to a proper restaurant

We were in town for a small medical procedure and this was a convenient spot. Very helpful, friendly staff. Connected to Leagues Club so lots of meal choices. Room a knock-out with a big window seat to feel like you were outdoors. King bed, double shower, good amenities, NO outside noises in spite of being near to a large parking garage. A surprising new choice for a stay in Newcastle.

Stayed at this hotel on Saturday night while we were visiting friends and after some of the previous reviews on this hotel was very pleasantly surprised. Check-in staff were extremely friendly (my two year old even asked me to go back and see them), and accommodating when I asked at the last minute to upgrade from a standard room to a one bedroom apartment. The room was extremely spacious, clean and and comfortable and I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone planning on staying in Newcastle in the future.

We stay at this hotel at least twice a month and find it modern, clean and comfortable . While its a little bit out of the way and there are no restaurants close by, the hotel is part of a club complex that has a choice of 3 venues, from the up market Brazilian grill on the top floor to the grill & buffet style offering in the club next door. We find the grill the cheapest & best eating option with drinks at club prices. The brazilian grill is great but on the pricy side however the food is great but make sure you don't eat for at least a day before going there, a word of warning this is not a place for vegans and people on a diet.
The rooms are always clean, well appointed, spacious and modern, I love the modern bathrooms with the twin shower heads. While I would not call the service warm & friendly it's always efficient & professional at the front desk, however the service at the adjoining restaurants is always good & friendly.
For regular visitors it might pay to become a member as this not only reduces the prices on the room but has discounts applied to food & drink in the adjoining club.
I would highly recommend this hotel, we will continue to visit while it delivers on all levels.

Loved the Gateway Inn, it's a fantastic new spot my partner and I to stay recently. Had two nights there and we're very impressed.

The rooms are gorgeous and spacious and YES the double shower heads are to die for!!! So much better than those silly bath / shower combos other hotels have.

The service was very good, I arrived about 8:30pm Friday night with no problems at all. Loving the parking.

Only cons were - location is a fair bit out of the way from Newcastle and there isn't much around. Our deal booked through wotif mentioned gym passes which we were never given or told anything about.

If this place did a breakfast deal / lunch deal with accommodation I would LOVE it. Otherwise overall, the best we have stayed in in the Newcastle / Charlestown area.

We decided to stay at the Gateway Inn because it was fairly new. On arrival I was informed that there was a $200 deposit due which we had not been informed about on booking. I would have thought that an imprint of the Credit Card would be enough to secure a room, as did the guest next to us who was also checking in. They did however waiver the $200 but told us the next time we stayed t we would have to pay it. (doesn't matter as we wont be going back). When we arrived on the 4th floor and got out of the elevator the corridors looked like locked jail cell doors, however on entering the room it was quite comfortable. The guest laundry was very convenient and clean.
