Five-star it ain't! But this old Spanish-styled motor inn is well maintained and kids love the chance to have their own room, TV etc. (actually part of a family suite)
South Grafton means south of the mighty and beautiful river which flows through town. This inn is still close to Grafton Rowing Club, which hosts the annual 40k marathon row each July, when rowers, friends and family members descend upon Grafton.
One thing to supervises is the exploration of the grounds by little kids. This Espana backs onto a deep, unfenced railway cutting, which kids instinctively discover! This should be the first place you look for missing children. It is the main track between Sydney and Brisbane, but few trains run on it these days.
The owners turn on terrific, affordable, family dinners and a good room service brekkie, Grafton's greatest asset are the friendly people. You'd never know they are doing it tough! .

Room Tip: Ask for accommodation in the two wings running back behind reception for the quietess night.

We stayed here enroute Canberra to Beerwah.

We stayed in room 10. The beds were comfortable and the room was far enough off the main road for traffic noise to not be a problem.

Ample room in the bathroom, adequate supply of pillows, blankets etc.
No microwave or cooking facilities but there is a restaurant near by.

I would recommend this motel as a trip breaker. And at $120 for a family of four was value for money.

Room Tip: Get a room as far back off the road as possible.

Hosts were unfriendly and the location very noisy. Being on the highway the rooms were noisy but OK The exterior was in need of repairs and cleaning.

Not reccommended for lenghty stays

Will look for another option next time.

Stayed one night to break the Brisbane/Newcastle trip. Dined in the Motel Restaurant, excellent value and service there. The room was down the back of the complex, as far as possible from the adjoining highway but the 'Jake' brakes on the trucks (there is a slight hill outside), were loud, clear and often. In hindsight, we would have been better served closing the windows and using the room air-conditioner but we both prefer to sleep without air con if possible. That aside, the motel was really good. Friendly owner, spotlessly clean, safe and secure, so if you use the air con or earplugs - go for it. $95 for a couple.

Stayed in this motel for one night to break up the trip from Brisbane to Sydney. Rooms have been recently refurbished with updated furniture, flat screen tv with austar and bathrooms have been updated. Rooms are basic but spotlessly clean. Beds were comfy and we had a good nights sleep before continuing our journey. Would recommend this motel for an overnight stay. Room rate was good value. Two adults and two kids in a family room for $150.
