“A Good Country Motel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 9, 2013

Nice clean well equipped rooms, very friendly proprietors and a restaurant on site that serves good country fare at very reasonable prices. A nice place to stay in Goulburn. The only possible negative is that its a bit far from the city centre but not too far.

This is a basic but good value hotel. It was very clean and included a free continental breakfast or for a few extra dollars included a cooked breakfast. The bed was comfortable and the room included Foxtel with a range of channels. Worth considering if you need a place to stay while travelling through.

Hi team, Arrived at this motel late in the afternoon after a long drive from Merimbula. Lovely lady at the reception gave us our key and we went to the room. Room was faily small although it had a Queen sized bed the design was strange with the bathroom washbasin in the main room. Ensuite farly small, TV small and not much space to put the luggage (2 suitcases) in
A/C, tea /coffee provided and free basic Continental Breakfast (at 7:30am) they had a small amount of fruit, fruit juice, Cerial and toast and Jam. A very basic breakfast but OK and included in the price.
Unfortunately this motel is a long way from town so because of the Late arrival of a large party we were unable to have dinner in the ajoining steakhouse which was the main reason I booked here in the first place.
Would I recomend this hotel to others, not really as I am sure there are others that are better a a similar price. We will try elsewhere next time we are in Goulburn

The carpet looks awful and was covered with spots. The room was small and smelled very strange. Some dead bugs were on the floor and at night many beetles flew around the room. The beds were quite good. Wifi is free.Breakfast would be included in the Lilac Steakhouse, but after the bad experience for dinner we prefer to have breakfast in the room.
We spent only one night in this motel. We would book it only in an emergency.

Arrived after long hot all day drive from north coast NSW, greeted by a nice lady at reception and that's where the good feelings ended.
On opening our upstairs room door the hot stale air and musty smell hit us all hard.
The "family" room was dark, dingy, small, pokey and very old looking.
There were stains and marks all over the walls and all the furniture, all be it a very small round round table with two old chairs and a two seater coach, nowhere near adequate for a family room.
We couldn't all sit in the same room to eat or watch the 1 small TV provided.
The bathroom was smelly though fairly clean except the exhaust fan cover looked like it had never been cleaned, yuk it was disgusting!
If we hadn't been so exhausted from our trip we would have walked out and stayed elsewhere, but knowing we would have have lost our money this wasn't an option, all being too tired and didn't want a confrontation either.
We opened up all the windows and the aircon worked well, thank goodness, so the smell subsided a bit once the air moved around a bit.
We went out for dinner and upon our return we had to open the room up again to get rid of the stale air smell which had returned, and then that's when the next problem started.
We had dozens of flying bugs flying around the room, obviously attracted by the very bright white light, right outside our big window. There were hundreds of flying bugs banging into our window.
Our three girls were hysterical with the bugs landing on them for the next hour or so until we decided they could all sleep in the queen bed in the other room and my wife and I had to sleep in a single bed each, sleep being a joke with bugs banging into your window all night, bugs crawling on you from time to time all night and the intense white light shining in the window past the inadequate window dressings.
After a terrible nights sleep by everyone, and after showering in a shower that went from hot to cold a hundred times we hoped that the complimentary breakfast would be the shining light on what up until now was a very dissapointing stay, but we were wrong.
Firstly we arrived at 8am to find no bread at all for toast, no apple or orange juice and the milk for the breakfast cereal was warm, not cold, and smelled as if it was about to turn.
That was the sum total of what was on offer, with the addition of single serve tea and instant coffee, not very appealing, but what should we have expected.
When asked to replenish the bread and juice the guy behind the counter went off, brought back two loaves of two different styles of bread and then placed only six slices of each in the empty basket.
When my wife went back to toast some she noticed the bread was stale and decided not to have any. BTW, the juices never got refilled while we were there; my daughters said they tasted terrible anyway, reconstituted and bitter, I tasted them and OMG they were gross.
You might say, "what do you expect for free!!" but if you can't offer something enjoyable and do it right, don't do it at all.
This place is 1-2 stars tops, no more, the free wifi was pathetic to, so slow it was too frustrating to perservere with, and we had a wifi extender box right outside the door as well.
To think we paid less than $10 more to stay at the Novotel Rooty Hill in a "King Suite with a huge spa bath and shower, a beautiful king sized bed, two huge LCD TV's, one on each room, yes it was a two room suite, the week before for a genuine 4+star hotel with a magnificant full hot and cold buffet breakfast was the icing on the cake, see my other recent review.
Next time, there will never be a next time staying at the Lilac City Motor Inn.
The lady was nice, that was the only reason I gave it an average rating for service.
0 stars for everything else!!!

For a cheap price the room was nice and clean. The beds were not so comfortable however. The continental breakfast was basic but good for anyone who wants to just get some food into them and hit the road.

Clean rooms, have modernized the rooms slightly with updated bathroom and new bedspreads. 15 min walk (at most, I was 7 months pregnant and it was a hot day, so I took my time!) to the main shopping strip, servo across the road. they need to look at the curtains, that do not block out the exterior lights at all and make it super hard to get to sleep. Also the walls are a tad thin... Could hear the muffled sounds of people talking and snoring next door. Great for a night, good price...
