We were heading back to Sydney after staying in Canberra for acouple of nights and decided to call into Goulbourn for brunch so that we could break the drive.
We really wanted something homestyle rather than the chain store fare and after driving down the main street, decided to park and walk around to have a look at some of the cafes. The Roses Cafe is not on the main street but some signage was visible and so, not excited about some of the main street options, we walked around the corner to investigate the signs we had seen.
Great decision! The cafe is set opposite a little park and just up from the Goulburn Courthouse which looks more like a small public school. The Cafe is a medium size but has indoor, verandah and street seating and because it was a beatiful morning we decided on the street parking. Sue chose a poached egg breakfast with tomato & bacon and I had eggs benedict (this came with a choice of ham or smoked salmon).
Everything was superb, one of the nicest breakfasts we have had anywhere, the cafe was very busy but staff were attentive, service was spot on and prices were very reasonable. Although the cafe was a little country style with local artist work for sale on the walls it was in keeping with the character of the area and their range of savouries, cakes and food items was fabulous.
Well done to a cafe that makes a break off the Hume almost mandatory - except on Sundays.
