“Great alternative to motels!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2013

We stayed there in September to visit my parents, booked a total of 3 bedrooms at the back of the house.

Beautiful old place that they look like they have worked hard to restore and still have a little to do due to the previous manager letting it down. We had other guests staying there at the same time but apart from their kids using the toilet/bathroom allocated to our room a couple of times they were good people..

Great place for a family get together as you could easily book the whole place and have a great time

We stayed at Ranelagh House over the June long weekend, as part of a group of three families (comprising 6 adults and 10 children). And what a wonderful time we had!

To begin with, the owner Peter was extremely personable and easy to deal with over the phone, offering very flexible sleeping arrangements in order to sleep all the families (although we actually ended up fitting perfectly in the existing set-up).

When we arrived, on a chilly wet afternoon, we found the fire already lit and the house warm and cozy. The house itself is beautiful - a real credit to the owners. The furniture is gorgeously traditional, and the bed linens of very good quality. The kitchen is beautifully fitted with an expansive dining table, and a large variety of cereals, bread and milk provided. Ranelagh is extremely large, and between the two large lounge areas and the library, there was plenty of room for everyone to relax. The adults adored the large lounge/billiards room (with full-sized billiard table) and movie-screen size TV, especially when we had the open fire blazing and a couple of glasses of red once the children were all tucked up after their day at the zoo.

Once the weather cleared up, the kids ran around to their hearts content outside, and played a couple of games of tennis, while most of the adults found a sunny corner on the verandah and enjoyed the view with a glass of wine. (BTW, in response to a previous guest, be assured, I did see someone turn up and feed and water the horse while I was sitting there!) Such a fabulous option when organizing a weekend away with a large group - so much room, and such good quality furnishing. We loved it!

My Husband and myself, along with an exuberant puppy , were welcomed at Ranelagh by Cheryl.

Wow.... What a divine Heritage Homestead with wonderful modern facilities and all the Pigeons you can watch..

We were returning to Queensland after a family visit. Ranelagh was perfect. Spacious room, lovely towels , ( Very high on my list of wants/needs), huge modern kitchen in which to eat, milk etc in the fridge... Erfect. It was so beautiful and peaceful that I had wished we were staying a week. Not a night. I will certainly be back.

We had the Fearon(?) Room. It was a huge room with a queen size 4 poster bed, a single iron bed and another single bed. We had our own en suite bathroom , very very comfortable.

Room Tip: See above.

After planning a surprise trip for my father's 60th to Dubbo I had trouble finding decent pet friendly accomodation in Dubbo. That is how I cam across Ranelagh Bed and Breakfast, and I am glad I did. The house is beautiful and suited our needs of accomodating 9 family members (including two dogs). We could fill the kitchen with our own food and relax in the lounge areas like we where at home.

Two out of the three nights we stayed there we had the company of other guests, but due to the spacious house with multiple lounge areas we still had privacy.

Peter, the owner, met us when we arrived and ensured we had plenty of food (bread, milk, juice, fruit and cereal) for breakfast. Great customer service.

All our future visits to Dubbo will include staying at Ranelagh Bed and Breakfast.

I was fortunate to spend 2 nights alone with my family therefore enabling us to enjoy what ranelagh has to offer to ourselves. If sharing with other families especially rowdy uncontrollable kids and party goers I could imagine it would be challenging to get some peace and quiet. Other than this it has character, activities that other b&bs dont usually have to offer, and its hospitable. For those who are prepared to socialise and get involved then this is the b&b for you, if not then theres not much else in dubbo to choose from. Our family are on the team who enjoyed it and will definately revisit.

Beautiful period house circa 1850 with quality furnishings and original features. Felt like stepping back in time. Yes it's in what might be called a light industrial area but it's on spacious land and set back from the road so you don't notice that at all.

Only one issue for me - 3 other families also there and a few noisy kids running thru the place disturbs the serenity. If the others are early starters or late finishers then the noise can drive you mad if you just want to sleep.

Ideal place for a group or extended family to get away together. Couldn't imagine a nicer place for that. Full size snooker table, BBQ, tennis court, large rooms.

Oh - one other gripe - no hot water in the morning. Maybe I was last of the 3 families to hit the shower.

As a young Sydneysider, this was a near nightmare. There's not much choice in Dubbo, but any motel would be better than this B&B.
Sure, it's a nice old property, wooden and complete with tennis court and (small) pool, but if you want a good night's sleep and relaxing experience, DON'T come here.
Not enough light in the rooms to read, and you can't go to sleep early because the other families/rooms are so close that you can hear everything. We stayed in the "Fearon" room, opposite the room with the billiard table, a favourite until the late hours of the night and the early hours of the morning.
There's a chicken shed with 2 unhealthy chooks and about 20 pigeons; doesn't look like anyone has been in there or cleaned the place since 1837 or whenever the place was founded. There are also 2 horses, my parents and I had to clean out the poor thing's water as it looked like it hadn't been changed in weeks.
Having said this, this B&B would be perfect for a group of friends who could book out the whole place, but with other families and screaming kids, people who hog the TV all night and eat smelly curry, it's not ideal.
Also, don't bet on having a hot shower, mine lasted 30 seconds and was of Antarctic temperatures.

Room Tip: Not the "Fearon" room, opposite noisy billiard room.
