My father had always wanted to go to Broken Hill and I agreed to go with him on the condition I could choose and book the motel. We arrived on Fri May 3 after flying into Mildura and then a 3 hour drive north with a rental car. The first thing we noticed was that the motel is very well located, it's about a block walk into town with a Hungry jacks across the street for those who like fast food and from there it leads to plenty of hotels and restaurants.
The Car parking is a little tight but no biggie, We checked in and a friendly girl at reception gave us some info on the area and then we were issued a 2 Bedroom apartment, Room 7. For a relatively small amount of space they have done an excellent job. You walk through the sliding door to find a decent size kitchen with microwave/stove/oven and an open plan living area with couches, TV and Foxtel Cable tv with freeview and about 10 cable channels.
The bathroom is also very nice and modern (Apartments are nearly brand new) with a decent shower and "Natural Evolution" toiletries which had a nice smell to them.
The basin is large and the cupboards contained extra supplies which is always handy. One thing I didn't realise is being self contained I didn't expect daily housekeeping which was an unexpected bonus, and meant we didn't need to buy anything from the supermarket, We went to the Woolworths at Centro Westside about a 30 min walk or 10 mins by car.
Both bedrooms were a good size and HUGE King Size beds! Beds so soft and comfortable! Each room also had its own split system heater/cooler. Very nice!
My father got talking to the owner Michael who mentioned they have plans to expand, So this place is only getting bigger apparently. Michael was great and gave us an honest rundown on all the restaurants and pubs....We really appreciated that he didn't sugarcoat anything and told it as it was.
We ended up at Alfrescoes one night for dinner which was a little slow service wise but the Pizza I had was pretty good.
Now for whats around Broken Hill. We travelled out to Silverton NSW and had a look at the pub where they filmed "Priscilla Queen of the Dessert" and "Mad Max" unfortunately the museum was closed but should have reopened now.
We also did the mine tour which has quite an interesting history but wouldn't recommend if you're claustrophobic, as its very cramped and dark down there!
Didn't use the pool but it looked a decent size....Maybe they could consider a spa as well? Whilst I personally wont rush back to Broken Hill as im more of a beach or mountain town kind of person if I ever had to pass through again would definitely stay here again.
We checked out on Sun May 5 at 7am to make a 12pm flight out of Mildura and as reception wasn't open they provide a box to drop keys. Insulation was good and we never heard our neighbours.
