“Who knew??”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 1, 2013

Who knew there were (and probably still are, if you look hard enough) dinosaurs in our local area?
Who knew there were that many interesting specimens....This museum is delightful, interesting and informative

“High standard museum”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 15, 2013

Great museum with well presented mineral displays and a small (apart from the whopping great big T-Rex and other predator) but perfectly formed fossil section.

Well worth the time if you are interested in either, though be aware smaller kids will struggle to stay engaged as it's not aimed at them at all.

“A Diamond in the Rough”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 20, 2013

We were driving through Bathurst and decided to stop for an ice cream - not being interested in motor sports we were intending to just drive through.

But WOW!

Thank goodness for the brochure I found - we popped into the museum just to get out of the heat and didn't want to leave. This museum is spectacular - my two girls - 11 and 9 - were rivetted. The fossils / the dinosaur skeleton just blew their minds as did the VERY impressive collection of minerals and rocks (they both collect rocks themselves - so they found the back story around the museum fascinating). I LOVED the amber collection - and the ladies who worked the door were deightfula nd knowledgable.

What an unexpected delight! (and the ice cream was good too)

“Stunning rocks and a big one with teeth!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 19, 2013

What a great little museum. Fantastic entry price for a family and to be greeted with a personal introduction to the place, excellent. Our kids attention span can be short at times, so some other museums we have missed a lot as we have had to keep up with them. This one was much better. Small enough that the kids could move on, see what they wanted and mum and dad could still go around at our pace. The collection of fossils was so stunning I had to ask if they were real or mock (they are real). The mineral collection has every kind of rock you can think of and presented very well with good information available. I had a rock collection when I was a kid, now my daughter has one - I think hers is better! This place is worth including in your visit to Bathurst if you're into museums, rocks, minerals and fossils.

“Hidden Treasure!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 20, 2012

This museum is a little gem (pun intended) in the centre of Bathurst. The displays of that portion of the Somerville Collection donated to the nation deserve all the accolades they have been awarded over the years.

For one man to amass such an astonishing collection - and to then selflessly make it available to all is indeed a lesson in humility to us all.

At the very low ticket price (which includes multiple visits during the day), I believe that it is a 'must' for all in the Bathurst area...
