“Avoid at all costs - cockroaches!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed March 28, 2012

We booked this motel for one night this week because we knew we'd be arriving late at night and wanted to have something reserved. We told the hotel in the afternoon that we'd be getting there at 11pm at night, as they told us no problem. When we arrived, shortly before 11pm, we found no one in the hotel lobby, and the reception area locked. We tried knocking everywhere, including on the room marked private next to the reception area and calling on the hotel phone number. We heard the phone ring 5-10 mins straight in the "private" room, without anyone picking it up. By that time we thought we better find somewhere else to stay and return to claim our money back for this motel the next day. Luckily (or not as it would turn out), the bartender at the local pub was very friendly and contacted the motel's manager for us, letting him know of the situation. The manager then somehow managed to get through to the person who was supposed to have been on duty, so we went back to the motel to finally have some rest after a long drive. We found the person on duty awake, but barely making any sense, saying he didn't hear us despite the phone ringing for minutes on end and us banging on his door several times. Instead of keys for 2 rooms that we booked, he had only keys for 1. Then he checked out booking and gave us keys for 2 rooms. I wish he didn't! The rooms were really old, scruffy, with rotting furniture. There were huge cockroaches everywhere!! Our friends' room smelled like moth bolls. It was a nightmare night, during which I didn't get any rest or sleep, and just couldn't wait to get out of there! Never ever if at all possible go to this motel!

Room Tip: avoid this place at all cost, there are plenty of nicer hotel in town. the second night we ended up...

While the rooms are fine - nothing fancy - the pub attached to it was a nightmare. When i booked I had no idea that there was a pub on the grounds, if i had i never would have booked. Drunk people yelling and swearing and music blaring til all hours. If you are here to party til all hours then this is the place for you. Very disappointed that the pub and loud music was not included in the description of the place.

Room Tip: No room will escape the blaring music and drunk people yelling

I have stayed at the mariners numerous times and the rooms are stil in there original form, however they are always clean and tidy and provide the usual, such as; kettle, toaster, hair dryer, iron and ironing board, complimentary coffee/tea station and milk, shampoo soap etc.

The views from the "Standard River View" are great at a price of only $90 per night on weekend and only $80 a night Sun - Thur.

Friendly and flexible check in times, as if reception is closed, you can always collect your room key from the main bar.

Weekends can be a little noisy, as it is a local hotel which provides entertainment in the way of bands or a DJ, but we see this as an added bonus, and the music normally ceases no later than 12am.

Would recommend this accommodation if staying the area and you would like a river view but not be charged an arm and a leg. Best accommodation in the area for the money you pay!

Room Tip: If you can, try and have a room on the first floor, as this provides a better view overlooking the r...

Had the fish of the day with chips and salad. I was served a large piece of fresh barramundi. Really fantastic. Actually it was the best fish and chips I've had in years! Cost $14.00! Bargain

Most definately the worst place I have ever stayed. Dirty, run down -bar downstairs full of yobbos...absolutely cheap and nasty -although at a price of 120 dollars for the family room...very overpriced. The bedding quite frankly was disgusting, Istripped the bedding off and just left the cotton sheets on because I was scared my children would catch something off the viscose blankets that were almost crispy...I cannot warn people enough ...go somewhere less well known , but clean !
