Used this establishment a lot in late 90s early 2000s as a corporate base when working in Wodonga for weeks and it was just OK at that time. Booked in en route to Melbourne (with wife) on a Saturday night in December and won't be back here again in a hurry. Rooms (put at the front of Hotel) are now very dated and bathrooms sub standard - bath over shower with one of those annoying mouldy shower curtains that wraps itself around you as you shower typifies the decor. Worst of all was the noise - hotel seems now to be wedding central in Albury and fuelled up young wedding guests spilling outside from the bar screaming and yelling till late hours was pretty ordinary and my wife found the imbibed lurching around the foyer when we came back from dinner a little intimidating. Went down for a pre dinner drink about 5.30pm and there already was a one man band in the bar area with the volume turned up so loud it was impossible to talk. We left and found a great little Thai restaurant just down the road and escaped for a few hours. Reception staff were friendly enough but duty night manager was extremely rude and not a great ambassador for the hotel's reputation. Breakfast was a bit of a zoo with us all barred access to the open front part of the restaurant and herded into a back section which was dark and gloomy and left to forage around a picked over buffet. Have used Rydges a lot over the years, particularly in London (Gloucester Road) where I like the little Australian touches, but this experience means I will be a little cautious about using them again (if ever!)
